A few things...

#1 - My U.S. v Nigeria player ratings are now up here. Though, to be honest, I spend as much time rating American coaching as I do the rather impressive participants in today's 2-1 dooming loss.

#2 - Playing without suspended backline Godzilla Oguchi Onyewu, Standard Liège held visiting five-time champions Liverpool to a scoreless draw in the first leg of their Champions League second qualifying round tie. It could have gone even better as Les Rouches wingback Dante Costa had a penalty saved by Giuseppe Reina.

By the way, Gooch isn't at all happy about being a Belgian king matched up against a club as strong as the Reds as early as the second qualifying round.

"I'm sure a lot of Belgians feel it is unfair the champions of a country have to play a qualifying round to get into the Champions League," Onyewu told BBC.

#3 - As you may or may not already know, the Galaxy have passed on U.S. defender Cory Gibbs to lure Eddie Lewis from Derby County.

Next in the allocation merry-go-round came Colorado, who promptly snapped up Gibbs.

Nobody needs to wonder what I think of
this decision by Los Angeles.

#4 - The Seattle side set to enter MLS play next season has signed former U.S. keeper Kasey Keller.

#5 - I know I promised a Top 5 List today, but it will have to wait until morning. Since the U.S. were ousted today, I decided to "incorporate additional data in my analysis" (or I just fell behind, whichever works best for you).

To tide you over, I offer this deluxe greatest Ajax goals video...
