#1 - Let's begin with weekend American goalscorers, shall we?
- Let's all say it together, now: Charlie Davies can't stop scoring! Sadly, his ninth of the season (media player link) came in a 5-1 loss to Helsingborgs. Nevertheless, CD currently sits third in the Allsvenskan goal chart, one goal and slot behind Helsingborgs star Henrik Larsson.
- IK Start defender Clarence Goodson rose high to net his second of the season as his team topped Sandefjord 3-1 to move into the Addecoligaen penthouse.
- And finally, Borussia Dortmund backline sensation Neven Subotić says "Saaaay hulloh to mye leetle fren" to hit the 1-0 winner at Cottbus on Saturday.
Best I could tell, no Americans notched assists, though Joe Lapira did force a Kyle Veris own goal as Nybergsund routed Hødd... does that count for something?
#2 - As promised this weekend, a mini-scoop about growing interest for All-League candidate Goodson. From what I understand that "abroad" interest is coming from Denmark and/or Germany.
Okay, so I lied... there was going to be a teeny tiny mention of transfer mishegaas.
#3 - Kevin Keegan has sang "Take this job and shove it" to Newcastle's board after being embarrassed in the summer silly season. Of course, that now makes three straight managers out the door in under two season, with Keggy having had enough after eight months.
The Magpies were unable to land any of their big targets (such as new Everton wonderboy Marouane Fellaini and Chelsea's Florent Malouda), and then sold James Milner after the coach had declared the player to be staying.
Not to defend the perpetually bumbling Newcastle front office too much, but let's be fair: who wouldn't jump at the chance to gain £9 million in exchange for James Milner?
UPDATE: It just gets better and better over at St. James. Now, club hierarchy is announcing that Kevin Keegan has not been fired - which would be true had he quit, something they manage to avoid addressing.
#4 - After doing enough damage to a city rail to shut it down for three hours, Napoli fans are facing a season away ban. And yet, true to form, only five people were detained.
When are Italian fans, police, clubs and leagues going to stop forcing us to look at them as caricatures? Do these offenders and the ones who turn a blind eye to the ever-growing madness surrounding soccer even like the game?
#5 - Change of plan: my nasty couple of swipes at the MLS offices will run as its own post tomorrow. I need a little more time to properly sharpen my claws.

Everton has now signed Saha and Fellaini - which one will make more of an impact at Goodison Park?
If Saha is healthy, they have a striker who is a small step below world class, so I think he gets the nod.
Any thoughts?
I'm sure Saha will have his days, but I certainly wouldn't put him over Yakubu.
As for Fellaini, he's an interesting case. I'm sure a lot of people in England were wondering who the hell he was and why they paid so much money for him when talk of the deal broke.
The 20-year old is a fantastic athlete, works harder at his game than almost anyone and seems a very solid citizen. I think he has the chance to become a Goodison hero.
So Curbishley is out the door at West Ham.
How will this affect Jonathan Spector? It always seemed like Curbs was a big supporter of his.
True, but I doubt it has any real im pact until Spec gets fit. Then, I suppose it's clean slate time.
Greg, are you still sharpening your claws? I always enjoy a good MLS rant.
Also, are you by any chance familiar with any of the kids called into the next U17 pool? Kids like Charles Renken, Joel Nash, etc.?
The claw swat at MLS is up now. :D
As for the U-17's, I am not yet overly familiar with any of those players, but I have seen a handful briefly. The good news is I will be able to see them during U-17 World Cup qualifying next spring.
