I admit it... that used to be me every time the ol' PC started going goofy and I had no clue how to make it stop. I'm not what one would call overly computer savvy. I know computers like I know cars - I know only what I've had to fix.
But today, as I continued to struggle for techno-normalcy for the second day in a row, I thought of some recent sage advice from my dear friend Ami: "Just say... 'Screw it'."
Yes, I cleaned it up a little with a new verb for you, but it resonated in original form on my brain. I set the monster to scan itself silly and went off to enjoy a laugh-filled dinner of Chicken Piccata and broccoli with a pair of friends, right nutter hip-attached munchkin girls from Guatemala and Poland.
Side note: USMNT fans will be heartened to know that the former a) can juggle quite well & b) has commented to me in the past that Carlos Ruiz needs to stop flopping.
After we walked a few blocks to get some apple pie, they said goodnight and I went back home to watch Match of the Day 2, plus some stray highlights from the Bundesliga and the Eredivisie weekends, all with a nice Crown Royal and ginger ale.
In any event, I didn't threaten my computer with an implement of destruction once. There were no expletives or gasps of futility. I really feel like I've turned a corner.
I mean, hey... this thing is five years old and I work it like a freshly plucked law associate at a big firm. I shouldn't be so mad, right? Heal, trusty sidekick, heal - you've earned it.
So yeah, I'll splurge for a new computer before long, and yeah, I'll be back tomorrow with a proper post or two.
