It should hardly come as a surprise, but LA Galaxy star Landon Donovan has officially declared himself ready to return to Europe, with specific designs on a move to either England or Spain. Of course, not long ago, he also said he'd have a hard time turning down an interested Bayern Munich.
Looking at potential landing spots in the Prem and La Liga, I find myself zoning in on teams currently in dire need of an attack rudder, yet strong enough to do some damage without Donovan needing to be a savior. There's no point in him going to a Bolton or Deportivo.
The first English club that leapt to mind was Portsmouth, who have shown interest in the U.S. attacker in the past and are located about as far south in the country as you can go. Factor in that Niko Kranjčar is drawing glances from the likes of Hamburg and Juventus, and it almost seems too perfect.
In Spain, my eye immediately went to Espanyol and Getafe, a pair of teams with considerable offensive talent that just aren't clicking. Since the former is in Barcelona and are also presumed to still have an idea of bringing fellow 'Nat Oguchi Onyewu over, let's call them my initial Primera pick.
However, if Bayern are ready to swoop, then I'd place them above both. Donovan may not.
So... who's gonna get it done?

I can't imagine why a German club would be willing to take a shot on him after the previous two stints. I'd prefer Spain for him.
I think the Spanish league probably suits his game best, though he wouldn't be terrible at a place like Portsmouth.
