Crew opens MLS Cup account

The Columbus Crew have been duly crowned champions of MLS!

If their Supporter's Shield margin wasn't enough evidence for the case, they went ahead and knocked out the formality of symbolically running away from their Sunday competition, the tamed New York Red Bulls. Apparently, "Olé!" also means "3-1".

Alejandro Moreno put the Crew up near the break with a bad-angle job that NYRB rookie keeper Danny Cepero will probably wish he could have another crack at.

John Wolyniec pulled the Red Bulls level just after intermission, but the parity didn't last long. As he did to help his team rally past Chicago in the semis, MLS Defender of the Year Chad Marshall guided home a corner kick two minutes later to put Columbus ahead to stay.

All that was needed was for overjoyed skipper Frankie Hejduk to put the bow on the prize with a nifty nod to Guillermo Barros Schelotto's genius, and at long last, the airborne confetti was black and yellow.

I hereby offer my heartfelt salutations to the Columbus Crew and all of their crazies.

Miss it? Want to relive it? Say no more...

Want to see the trophy presented? Say no more...

Want to see some Red Bull reaction? Say no more...

One more thing: for heaven's sake, somebody get Bill Archer's keys. Boy, I sure do hope he's off work tomorrow.
