A few things...

I will add quite a bit as the day goes, but wanted to get these early notes up fast, so...

#1 - Hansa Rostock have made an offer to Hannover 96 for Sal Zizzo, and the Reds are willing to talk deal. I do not yet know whether this is a loan offer or a transfer offer, but I am busy trying to chase down a vacationing German to find out. Stay tuned...

#2 - Charlie Davies agent Lyle Yorks told me last night that Sochaux have not yet withdrawn their transfer bid from Hammarby's table. It seems the French club won't be shooed away so easily. Stay tuned...

#3 - I posted a bit on how interested clubs are kinda ignoring Standard's "hands off" warning over Oguchi Onyewu at S365 yesterday. I would have mentioned it then, but I was busy tending to very important personal matters (a ka it was The Distracter's birthday).

Ohhhhh, who knows with this saga anymore? Maybe I'll stop guessing and hunting and just sit here with a Pepsi until something official happens.

You didn't buy that for a second, huh? Nah, me neither.

(begrudgingly hauls self back to salt mine, pickaxe on weary shoulder)

#4 - Sorry to change topics so abruptly, but... ummm... Reggina defender Bruno Cirillo wants to become a porn actor. Yup, he admits it. And his teammates believe he could... erm... make it big.

Too. Many. Jokes. Can't. Distill. To one...

#5 - Toronto FC midfield general Carl Robinson writes that he is about to seal a deal to return to BMO for two more seasons. There is also word going around that kooky Parma hit man Cristian Lucarelli is set to join up in Canada.

If TFC can then do something about the loss of Julius James, they will start looking very dangerous for next season.

#6 -
The D.C. Examiner reports that MLS are about to close a deal to sign Maryland defender Omar Gonzalez, who has had interest from Mexico. If so... well done, MLS.

I hope Omar likes fresh fish, trees, rain and coffee.

#7
- Ever wonder how DaMarcus Beasley feels about the USMNT's heated rivalry with Mexico? Scratch your head no longer (mp3 link).

#8 - Check out this great story from Steven Goff. Who knows? Maybe you can help Jan Milders find someone who played in the benefit game between a U.S. Air Force team and amateur club AS Pointe Cotentin in 1944. Do have a look, just in case.

#9 - I was gonna cram in the full Champions League and UEFA Cup draws, but the post is getting long, so I will post those separately in a moment.

#10 - Tim Howard and Carli Lloyd grabbed the top U.S. Soccer prizes for 2008, with Sacha Kljestan and Kristie Mewis netting the Young Player of the Year awards.

Some video with highlights from the year and comments from the winners...

Tim Howard

Carli Lloyd

Sacha Kljestan

Kristie Mewis

Sounds like the Serbian head coach has said that Subotic is theirs.

I'd say this to that: either the Serbian coach or the one who said the Serbian coach said that is full of it.

The AP has picked it up, so it's all over the place. I'm not so sure I believe Steve Kelly either -- didn't he say to Yanks Abroad that "Neven would never miss a national team match" about a year ago? What do you think, Greg?

Greg Seltzer said...

I've never been steered wrong by Steve. I don't know anything about that quote you mentioned.

If something changed in the last few weeks, then something changed - but this wouldn't be the first time a sourceless report tried to place him with a national team.

Heck, it's not the first national team they've tried to place him with. I'll wait for something more substantial.

Greg:

Here was the link I was referring to. This dates back to the Switzerland friendly, when he was still with Mainz.

Has there been any news on Kljestan? With all the clubs linked to him it has been awfully quiet on that front. Where do you see him going? any preferences?

Greg Seltzer said...

Ah. No clue.

But I will ask him when I get the chance.

@ Micah: I really don't know what's going on with Sacha. His agent and many of teams linked to him are rather tight-lipped. I do have someone I can ask about the Dutch teams he was linked to, if I can pin him down.

The holiday season makes chasing club folk difficult.

In case, anyone was wondering, there is also no great movement on Cooper and Wynne. I plan to post a bit about the general topic of MLS player transfers out, complete with some interesting comments from Lyle Yorks, who represents both of those players. It will probably go up at S365 this weekend.

Forgive me if you've already addressed this (haven't really seen it) but any news on if Bobby Boswell is heading over there? What clubs are interested, if any? Thanks. :)

Krista, I actually do not have a good grasp on the Boswell situation. My guess is you will see Steven Goff at WaPo or Bernardo Fallas at the Houston Chronicle break this story.
