U.S. v El Tri: The aftermath

In case you somehow missed it all...

My U.S. player ratings.

The highlights.

Reactions from Michael Bradley and his dad, who is always around the team for some reason (I kid!).

Some mixed zone interviews...

Then we have the curious case of Frankie Hejduk being slapped in the face by a waiting Mexico assistant coach. Here is the video (in Spanish) and Dude's resulting comments to red-hot Soccer Insider Steven Goff.

Side note: Maybe this could be the newest Mexican tele-novella sensation - "El Gringo Pelo Excesivamente". We can get both actresses that played Marta in Arrested Development to co-star, with "some guy who you think is named Hermano" and Desi award nominee Megalito in the supporting cast.

And (of course), the USMNT has been outed as cheaters, which is (of course) the only way to beat Mexico.

I'm now rolling my eyes, in case you can't see me. And if you can see me, well, I'm more than a little freaked out. But I digress...

I love the awful music this guy is listening to while trying to make his point that we cheat. Maybe he cant make his arguement because his brain has turned to mush from listening to terrible top 40 music.

Took the words out of my mouth, otergod. Poor dude looked ready to choke up at any moment.

I don't understand the low ratings for Donovan. His speed and clever passing and runs were the biggest threats to Mexico all night long. I haven't watched the replay yet, but I certainly don't buy into the 5.5 rating.

oh...and the other thing...the tactical setup wasn't for Ching to score. His job was to hold the ball up until Hejduk and Pearce could give us a numbers advantage or until Donovan or Beasely could run off of him. He did his job perfectly last night.

@ drew: Actually, I gave Donovan a 6. I had him rated the 4th best starter last night behind Bradley, Hejduk and Howard. I disagree that his passing was a big threat, it was far less decisive than usual.

As for Ching... I mean... he WAS the lead striker. Even in the hold-up game, he was not flawless. I thought he put in a serviceable showing, but the striker has to at least threaten on occasion.

I would have rated Dempsey higher. He tracked back many times with good tackles and was the one target in midfield that would take a pass from the backline and quickly move it to the correct player.

I think having Donovan upfront and Dempsey back also through the Mexicans off. There game plan was probably to rough up Donovan to bottle up the US, but he wasn't there to intimidate. Dempsey ended up intimidating the Mexicans.
