Nguyen brace lifts HAGL

U.S. international Lee Nguyen scored both goals to spark Hoàng Anh Gia Lai to a sorely needed 2-1 home win over Thể Công. The win snapped a four-game league victory drought and moved to the preseason title contenders up to eighth (and to within three points of second place).

Let's all cross our fingers for a video clip...

why is he playing in the V-League

I think it's very important for him personally to spend some time playing in his dad's homeland. He's still quite young, I see no need to give up on him yet... as many USMNT fans have.

He certainly warrants another look at some point, though he seems to have a chronic inability to break into lineups (granted many have failed to do just that at Ajax, but Randers?).

I do recall a great run he had in the US v. China game, but that's really the only positive thing I've seen him do in a USMNT jersey.

But what position does he play? Seems like another small creative midfielder in the Torres / Adu mold.

He is a bit of a position tweener, but I think Guus Hiddink was right and that Lee is probably best used as a proper right winger.

And yeah, I think he could be a #10 guy, but it would need to be the right formation. The guy I liken him to in that role is former PSV teammate Ismail Aissati of Ajax (though Lee finishes better than him and isn't quite as strong on the dribble, so he isn't a dyed in the wool playmaker type).
