No major surprises - though I'm wondering if Jeremiah White wouldn't be a better choice than Freddinho right now. In addition to the list below, U.S. boss Bob Bradley will have non-roster invitees Eric Lichaj (Aston Villa right back) and Luis Robles (Kaiserslautern keeper) at his disposal.
This squad will tackle World Cup qualifiers against Costa Rica away and Honduras before focus turns to Confederations Cup. That 23-man roster will be named on June 7th.
GK: Brad Guzan (Aston Villa: 5/3 SO), Tim Howard (Everton: 9/7 SO)
D: Carlos Bocanegra (Rennes: 19/2), Jonathan Bornstein (Chivas USA: 1/0), Danny Califf (FC Midtjylland: 4/0), Jay DeMerit (Watford: 1/0), Frankie Hejduk (Columbus Crew: 17/2), Oguchi Onyewu (Standard Liège : 14/1), Heath Pearce (Hansa Rostock: 9/0), Jonathan Spector (West Ham United: 2/1), Marvell Wynne (Toronto FC: 0/0)
MF: Freddy Adu (Monaco: 5/1), DaMarcus Beasley (Rangers: 24/6), Michael Bradley (Borussia Mönchengladbach: 9/4), Maurice Edu (Rangers: 4/0), Benny Feilhaber (Aarhus: 0/0), Sacha Kljestan (Chivas USA: 9/0), Pablo Mastroeni (Colorado Rapids: 13/0), José Francisco Torres (Pachuca: 4/0)
F): Jozy Altidore (Xerez: 6/5), Brian Ching (Houston Dynamo: 15/6), Charlie Davies (Hammarby: 1/1), Clint Dempsey (Fulham: 15/4), Landon Donovan (Los Angeles Galaxy: 28/9)

while i wouldnt mind having white since i dont think we have enough wing options, i would rather have freddy there than white's teammate. you have seen him more than i have, but i just dont think benny deserves (yet) to be here.
also, i think with jonny b in camp it (unfortunately) signifies the end of the beasley at lb experiment. though i really liked it and felt that it got more of our quality players on the field, and this is coming from somebody who is a big pearce supporter (any word on where he might go this summer). im also a bit worried about cb depth.
sorry greg, i always think i make my comments too long.
For starters, comment as much as you'd like. Better to get your points out than be overly brief and we are in no space crunch here.
Now... to me, Freddy and Benny are both #10's. However, Bradley uses neither as such. It's all very strange. Still, as is, I'd say Benny has more reason to eb there as someone actually playing and getting starts.
In our current system, Adu and White essentially are competing for spots, especially now that White has shown he can go from the left as well.
I agree that the presence Bornstein, who is having a nice MLS season thus far, pushes DMB back up the wing... and I am super grateful for that. Not only is Bease the only proper LM in camp, I absolutely never want to see him back at LB again. We got away with it once, I can't imagine we would again. Beasley is NOT a wingback, at all, and I say putting him there actually removes or lessens most of his best attributes.
I would not worry about CB depth. We have plenty of capable options.
Greg,
Any idea on why Bradley continues to use Califf and DeMerit as his back-up CB's when he has other options in better form (Conrad, Whitbread, Marshall, etc)?
I can understand the need for experience in WCQ which would discount the latter two, but Conrad has played in some pretty big USMNT matches.
Well, George, form isn't really a problem for Califf and DeMerit, but:
- Bradley seems to have no use for Conrad, which I can't figure out at all...
- I have no clue why Whitbread was not called this time, it's utterly beyond me...
- I'm not sure I'd place Marshall within either the form or talent range of the main guys, and it's possible Bradley doesn't either.
