Close, but alas, no cigar

The USMNT dropped an absolute heartbreaker in the Confederations Cup final today, letting a two-goal halftime lead dissolve into a 3-2 Brazil victory in their first ever FIFA championship match.

Tim Howard grabbed the Golden Glove as the tourney's top keeper, while Clint Dempsey scooped up the Bronze Ball as the MVP second runner up. Here is the first set of postgame quotes from our boys.

That was absolutely gut wrenching. The first half was a master class performance, but that early second half goal killed our vibe and momentum.

I don't have too many complaints today. Not yet at least.

Just proud at what the team accomplished.

Why is no one is talking about how we gave Brazil all the possession required to make their comeback? The long ball in this country must die!

Our passing killed us again: 55% complete and a pathetic 337 attempts compared to Brazil's 79% and 608 passes.

Our passing was worse today than in the group stage and Brazil's was better (and much more frequent -- they completed 100+ more passes today than the previous match.)

And the long ball must die: a goalkeeper should not complete only 44% of his passes.

The long ball could die if we had midfielders with enough skill to play one touch soccer without playing the ball into the opponents... Only in one game this tournament were they able to do that, Spain, and even then it was only in fits and spurts.

Am I the only one who regularly has trouble with embedded ESPN videos? Every site, every browser, every computer I use.

It's weird -- occasionally I can click the play button and they just magically start rolling. But 95% of the time I sit there clicking and clicking and nothing even budges.

I don't have trouble with ESPN vids, but oddly I've had quite a bit with YouTube recently.
