Beckham finally gets his handshake(s)

The Distracter said to me, she said 'Don't you stay up too late' with her usual stern concern over my well-being just a moment after I had decided to just go ahead and finish The Beckham Experiment late last night. When I finally closed the hardbound, I looked at the clock to notice the Kansas City-Los Angeles tilt was about to start.

Of course, I stayed up even later to catch the first half of a 1-1 draw... but only because TD is an understanding soul. I wanted to see the 2009 Galaxy man David Beckham, no longer a captain yet as ever the bulb-pop attraction and key to club field success.

After much ado about his fan encounter last week, the England ace was again confronted, this time by a man wearing the Three Lions and St. George's cross on a jersey. And this time, a concurrent substitute (of TBE supporting actor Alan Gordon, one of the few players in the book that comes off in a completely positive light) allowed Goldenballs™ to finally get the fan handshake he said he wanted.

Actually, it was his second important glad hand of the evening. The first came before the break when Beckham's steal allowed skipper Landon Donovan to rifle home from distance. The two had a hearty high five; it wasn't overly personal, but it was business-like. Who knows? Maybe these two can combine for an MLS Cup chase after all.

Naturally, even the British press had to pitch in two cents - I still wonder how a U.S. supporters group is branded 'attention-seeking frat-boys' compared to what goes on in the U.K., but oh well, can't expect no sly digs at American soccerdom from them.

However, my first question is: did anyone think to get him some Kansas City BBQ? It would be worth it, if only so Donovan could playfully chide him as a 'fat f***er' one more time. Yes, I took extensive notes and will unveil a belated book review tomorrow - rather looking forward to it, actually, despite losing the advance status through mail mishaps.

For now, we have both the goal reel and a closer look at Beckham's night in K.C., cue the video...
