Gold Cup Part Deux

I'm making one catch all post for this match, which sees the USMNT accept a Gold Cup call in Washington D.C. with a chance to clinch advancement to the knockouts.

Tonight's line-up card is as follows:

Perkins; Cherundolo (c), Marshall, Parkhurst, Pearce; Quaranta, Pause, Beckerman, Rogers; Adu, Ching

Subs: Robles, Evans, Davies, Holden, Feilhaber, Heaps, Cooper

I gotta say, I rather like this line-up. We have plenty of capable weapons on the bench if late offense is required. With Honduras missing several regulars, I will predict a 3-1 USMNT victory.

You folks back home can tune in to FSC or TeleFutura, and those still at work can follow on the ussoccer.com MatchTracker.

A quick question: isn't it time the USMNT had its own radio network, even if it's just online? I hearby announce my desire to audition for either booth position.

Enjoy the game, I will come back in the morning to add the requisite video clips and Player Ratings will go up at Soccer365 tomorrow, hopefully by your lunchtime. I tend to sleep quite late after one of these 3AM kickoffs, as you might imagine.

UPDATE: Please do note that Freddy Adu has left the team to join Benfica preseason camp, as had been arranged with the club. Why this had to be a secret until he left is beyond me.

UPDATE UPDATE: We also now have the postgame quote sheet and my U.S. Player Ratings are up.

The highlights...

Greg, I would absolutely love for you to do Team USA radio. I'll help in any way possible.

Fairly disappointed in Bradley tonight.

Feilhaber and Davies should have started, and Ching should be nowhere near this team.

Kenny Cooper continues to show, in very little time, that he deserves a much longer look than Ching.

Also, real quick, a question for you:

When you were still in the US, were you a huge Ajax fan then?

If so, do you remember a kid named Dwayne Jones from New Orleans that Ajax was desperate to sign back in 2001\2002?

Watching Charlie Davies made me think how sick we could be if Jones had made it to Ajax instead of ending up at Clemson.

The sad thing is, Ching will START in South Africa. Bank on it.

Heck, Spector, Davies and DeMerit never even would have played were it not for injuries.

Playing Adu up top with Ching, with that midfield for service is a joke and sets up Adu for failure. He surely didn't help his cause, however, by not making runs and looking for space. Had a few great touches though, and was wide open for an easy goal in teh 1st half.

Love the radio idea, but I think it's the same problem with video stream: the rights are owned by the partnering company (ESPN or FSC).

Just a guess....perhaps worth looking into.

Anything you might want to tell us??

I would LOVE a team USA radio broadcast. Do a good pregame and postgame show with call ins and it could be a real hit.

Greg, L'Equipe is reporting that the Davies deal is done - is he heading there soon and skipping the rest of the Gold Cup?

If so, I hope it means Cooper gets his chance to shine.

Despite all reports, the Davies deal is NOT done. He has agreed to personal terms, but the teams have not settled on a fee. It should get done before long, though.

What exactly are 'personal terms'? Just salary etc?
