Report: Freddinho loaned to Belenenses

According to A Bola, Benfica attacker Freddy Adu is set to spend his season with OS Belenenses, who sit seventh in the Portuguese top flight through three games with a 1-1-1 record. The most notable new teammates to stateside fans would be former Sporting Lisbon defender Beto, Costa Rica midfielder Gabriel Gómez and Sevilla loan-out Igor.

An official announcement is expected shortly.

UPDATE: It's official. I will try best I can to get Freddy on the horn.

Well, now he just needs to get in well with this coach and get some playing time.

He has 2 weeks of prep for their next game, which is against SL Benfica. The Portuguese league guys over at BigSoccer have said that the league has no rule forbidding loaned-out players from playing against their former team, so Freddy should be eligible.

Thank God is right. I'm not sure if Freddy ever had an ego problem but, if he did, I'm guessing his post-MLS experience has helped ground him a bit. This has been quite the journey for a 20-year-old kid.

Greg: any idea who Freddy will be competing against for playing time?

Looks like Vincenzo Bernardo has officially parted ways with Napoli. Greg, you got anything on teams interested in Bernardo?
