Saturday LIVE

I won't be here through every minute of the day, but I will try to keep you up on all Americans Abroad goings on throughout the day.

We have both the Prem and SPL kicking off today, as well as a huge early bout for Danish leaders Aarhus GF at FC Copenhagen and Charlie Davies after a home debut against French holders Bordeaux.

We begin today by noting Jozy Altidore's most recent Twitter post, which revealed that he will not be available to Hull City against Chelsea today due to ongoing work permit procedure.

--

Okay, let's see if I can remember: eastern time, eastern time...

7.58 AM ET - With Kenny Cooper in the line-up, 1860 Munich are level with hosts Hansa Rostock 1-1 at the break.

And to quickly cover last night's action: Charles Kazlauskas and Helmond Sport worked the last 20 minutes of a 4-2 home loss to Cambuur at 10 men, while Ryan Guy and St. Pat's are set for a fourth round FAI Cup replay at home after posting a 0-0 draw at Monaghan.

8.38 AM - Six minutes after Cooper departs in the 72nd minute, Fin Bartels scores to put Hansa up 2-1. Elsewhere, a Jozy-less Hull are even 1-1 at Chelsea at halftime, while Jeremiah White replaces midweek international Benny Feilhaber in AGF's line-up at FC Copenhagen. That SAS Liga showdown kicks off in about 25 minutes.

8.58 AM - Final score: Hansa 2, 1860 1.

9.34 AM - Quarantine man Steve Cherundolo is not dressed for Hannover 96's hosting of promoted Mainz... but Sal Zizzo is. The winger is on the bench as this one kicks off.

Meanwhile, Hull look set to scrape a shock 1-1 draw at Chelsea and Copenhagen-AGF remains scoreless past the half hour.

9.49 AM - Didier Drogba's second of the game rescued full points for Chelsea near time, so Hull open with nothing more than fine effort to their credit.

Meanwhile, AGF have headed to the break leading hosts FC Copenhagen 1-0 thanks to a Peter Graulund strike in the 34th minute.

10.43 AM - Sorry this took so long, my computer is an absolute bastard that I will one day smash with a bat. All sorts of games have started, so let's just run down the scores as we stand:

FC Copenhagen 0 AGF 1 - 90' (White off 71', Feilhaber on 80')
Aston Villa 0 Wigan 1 - (Friedel in goal)
Portsmouth 0 Fulham 1 - HT (Dempsey started, assisted on Zamora goal)
Wolves 0 West Ham 1 - HT (Spector on bench)
Hannover 96 1 Mainz 1 - 80' (Zizzo in as sub)
Rangers 2 Falkirk 1 - HT (Beasley on bench)
Sheffield Utd 1 Watford 0 - HT (DeMerit starting)
Peterborough 0 - Sheffield Wed. 1 - HT (Simek on bench)
Wycombe 0 - Leeds Utd 0 - HT (both Pittman & Grella on bench)
Swindon 0 - MK Dons 0 - HT (Johnson starting)

11.00 AM - Final score: FC Copenhagen 0 AGF 1

Danish leaders Aarhus GF have solidified their penthouse standing by scoring a monster win away to the defending champs.

11.12 AM - Zizzo has entered for Hannover in the 76th. Funny how things work out sometimes, eh?

11.25 AM - Final score: Hannover 1 Mainz 1

Also, Wigan is now up 2-0 at Aston Villa and Leeds have gone ahead 1-0, both games just past the hour.

11.37 AM - Spector entered for West Ham in the 65th, and Matthew Upson doubled their lead to 2-0 a few moments later. In Scotland, Kenny Miller's brace maker has Rangers up 3-1 with a little over 10 to play.

In the Cola, Wednesday have knotted things 1-1 at Peterborough and Watford are now down 2-0 at Sheffield United. In League One, Pittman entered for Wycombe in the 63rd, but they still trail visiting Leeds 1-0 in the 81st.

11.44 AM - Steven Naismith makes it 4-1 Rangers in the 84th.

12.04 PM - More final scores, in a bunch:

Rangers 4 Falkirk 1
Aston Villa 0 Wigan 2
Portsmouth 0 Fulham 1 (Dempsey assist)
Wolves 0 West Ham 2
P'borough 1 Sheff. Wednesday 1
Sheffield Utd 2 Watford 0
Wycombe 0 Leeds Utd 1
Swindon 0 MK Dons 0

And did anyone notice the middle slate of Prem matches featured five road wins from six games? Tim Howard's Everton kicks off against visiting Arsenal in about 25 minutes.

1.13 PM - With Davies available for sub's duty, Sochaux are 11 minutes into a scoreless home opener against Ligue 1 kings Bordeaux. Meanwhile, Denilson has fired Arsenal ahead of Everton 1-0 in the 36th.

2.09 PM - Davies entered at the half with Sochaux suddenly down 2-0 to Bordeaux. Meanwhile, Everton are down (gulp) 5-0 to rude guests Arsenal as we enter the final 15. Timmy isn't getting much help today.

2.18 PM - Davies has opened his French account with a low lefty shot to cut Bordeaux's lead to 2-1 in the 61st minute!

2.31 PM - Davies nearly ties the game on a doorstep low cross collision with the keeper, who is slow to get up.

2.35 PM - Arsenal/West Ham target Marouane Chamakh buries a corner kick to extend Bordeaux's lead to 3-1 in the 80th.

2.39 PM - It's over at Goodison: Everton 1 Arsenal 6. Yeesh.

2.49 PM - In added time, Davies has cut the lead to 3-2 by pouncing on a corner kick rebound!

2.50 PM - Full time: Sochaux 2 Bordeaux 3.

I will display Charlie's double in a new post. Other than that, I'm off to relax. Enjoy your respective MLS evenings.

Thanks for the updates Greg! Think Davies will get the start today (or come on later)?

Oops...published the commen too quickly. Eurosport lists an "expected" lineup that doesn't include Davies, and I was wondering if they have any specific information.

We won't know the Sochaux line-up for another 2 1/2 hours or so. Because of his tiring midweek adventure, I would assume he will be on the sub's bench again.

Forgive me if you've adressed this and I've somehow missed it but what's new with Pearce? Any good news on a club? Thanks. Keep up the great work. :)

Greg Seltzer said...

Thanks, Krista.

Pearce has quite a bit of interest, twice as many leagues as in my last update. Now it's just a matter of him finding the right place.

This may be the year Everton gets found out. Christ their defense looks awful.

Thanks Greg. Hope he ends up where he'll earn to start and build his confidence up.

Oh I had to stop watching that poor display of football. Hate Arsenal almost as much as I hate ManU.

Hey greg, what's the deal with Marcus Tracy? Injured, or out of favor?

Greg,

Will you have a post soon with info about which Yanks may still move in this window?

That would be FANTASTIC!

bhamhawker said...

Any chance Tim Howard can move somewhere with a defense?

Greg Seltzer said...

@ Max: He had some sort of niggle a while back, I'm not sure if that's still nagging or not.

@ Adam: I was going to do one a while back, but I could never line up all my info at the same time. There were some things I couldn't divulge yet, some things about to bust, etc. I have a few things, but have to sit on them for now. It can be difficult to time those bits for maximum info. Hmmm, I may be too picky.

Short answer: probably not until the last week of the window.

@ bham: I'm assuming this showing will
not be representative of the season as a whole.

oh boy... Charlie Davies nets three in one week.

Great stuff Greg. That Charlie Davies prediction isn't looking quite as wild is it?

Pretty good day for Americans in Europe, minus the Tim Howard debacle.

bhamhawker said...

To be fair to Howard, only 1 goal was remotely savable.

Lescott looked like he was trying to get sent to Man City with his performance.
