U.S. camp roster revealed

USMNT coach Bob Bradley has summoned 24 players to assemble in Utah at month's end to prepare for vital CONCACAF World Cup qualifers against El Salvador (September 5th at Rio Tinto) and Trinidad & Tobago (four day later in Port of Spain).

The big surprise call-up is RSL forward Robbie Findley, who for some reason can't even seem to get league starts despite status as top scorer.

D - Carlos Bocanegra (Rennes: 22/3), Jonathan Bornstein (Chivas USA, 2/0), Steve Cherundolo (Hannover 96: 19/0), Jay DeMerit (Watford: 3/0), Clarence Goodson (IK Start: 1/0), Chad Marshall (Columbus Crew: 2/0), Oguchi Onyewu (AC Milan: 17/1), Jonathan Spector (West Ham United: 2/0)

M - Kyle Beckerman (Real Salt Lake: 0/0), Michael Bradley (Borussia Mönchengladbach: 11/4), Ricardo Clark (Houston Dynamo: 6/0), Clint Dempsey (Fulham: 18/4), Landon Donovan (Los Angeles Galaxy: 31/11), Benny Feilhaber (Aarhus GF: 2/0), Stuart Holden (Houston Dynamo: 1/0), Robbie Rogers (Columbus Crew: 0/0), José Francisco Torres (Pachuca: 5/0)

Any idea what Bradley's goal is with these call-ups?

Does he plan on sending a 2nd-rate squad into Trinidad with the likes of Findley, Rogers, Beckerman, Marshall, etc.?

I just don't understand the need for a 24-man squad (especially when only bringing in 2 keepers) and calling in a load of MLS players with fairly little value to the squad (Marshall, Rogers, Findley, Casey, Beckerman, etc.).

We're under 12 months until the World Cup, so shouldn't we be developing our best squad and prepping them for next year, rather than searching through the MLS ranks for more bench material?

It's been just under 3 years now with Bob at the helm, and I still have no idea what our goals or gameplans are.

F--k that noise!

I keep hearing the Castillo shouts on (many) other sites, but is he even eligible yet?

why why why why??? Bornstein, Casey, Beckerman, Rogers??? Really Bradley??? I am amazed he didn't bring Sacha, either. I am just not confident in Bradley's choice of players. This is very amateur. I mean, is this the best our country has to offer? If Casey even goes on the field, I will just turn off the tv. Unbelievable! Something must be done. Why is US soccer still wasting their time with Bradley? I mean, the writing is on the wall.

@pete Dude, Sunil Gulati just said Bob Bradley will be our coach for the World Cup. It's not going to change unless, well, we don't qualify. We just have to deal with it.

Why can Alvarez play for El Salvador but Castillo can't play for the US? He made the switch to and he is on the roster for the game? Does El Salvador take priority over the US in these situations or are they not following the rules?

I think Alvarez started his paperwork immediately when the rule changed, whereas it's unclear if Jones and Castillo did.

Remember too that Jones is still recovering from a broken leg.

Seriously folks, what do you want Bradley to do -- call in a roster of only 18 players? The players everyone is moaning and complaining about are largely unlikely to see the field, and isn't there some benefit to attempting to increase the depth of the US player pool by bringing these additional players into camp? Wow -- what a vitriolic response to relatively unimportant decisions...

Alvarez was expedited because he tried to switch before the rule change.

OK, Vapid, point taken. Let's take a look at some of the players on this roster that should not be on this roster regardless of whether they will play or not. OK, lets start with my biggest agitation... Conor friggin Casey! You are telling me that he is the better candidate over Kenny Cooper and Chris Rolfe? I would rather see Eddie Johnson than that lumberjack. Robbie Rogers made the squad over Freddy Adu and Beasley? I mean, I would rather see Eddie Gaven over this kid. Why is Bornstein still here? I would rather see Heath Pearce than that guy. Goodson over Califf in defense? Man, it is frustrating to see these decisions. Perhaps Bradley knows more than we do but, lets set the bar high! I guarantee we see one of these clowns play on Saturday! Guaranteed! However, I am still a fan with high hopes. After all, this is OUR country! Go USA!
