And so begins the World Cup tune-ups...

The first confirmed foe? Fellow South Africa travelers Denmark in Aarhus on November 18th.

The good news is both Michael Bradley and Benny Feilhaber can give an advanced scouting report on their qualification hero (video link).

Obviously, I will hope to be there.

Great match-up against a high-flying quality opponent. I'd also like to see friendlies against a quality South American opponent like Paraguay and a tough African side like Ivory Coast in the build-up to the World Cup. This is a great start.

I heard Charlie Davies got in a car wreck. Any word on that?

Worst timing possible. That road is cursed. There was a horrible wreck there this morning at 3:15 AM. No idea if Davies was in that wreck or a separate one.

I'm working on it, Alex. Apparently, someone involved in the crash was killed, but Charlie does not have serious injuries. I'm trying to find out more.

I've driven that road before and it's a winding road and easy to lose control. Really screwed up traffic around here. Best of luck to Charlie and a speedy recovery. Lets hope hes OK and its not something serious.

This might not even be the same wreck, as it was 12 hours ago...?

It was that accident, and the car they were in was torn in half.

My prayers to all involved.

Someone has tweeted that Charlie is still in surgery and could be in for a while longer.

Sounds like the US players were being told at practice. I can't imagine how they could manage a practice after this.

I sure hope he's alright. What's he doing up at 3:15? Staying on French time?
