We've had two more teams clinching their place in South Africa today, with the Ivory Coast and Germany nudging the number of qualified up to 13.Die Mannschaft did the deed with a 1-0 tabletop showdown victory at Russia, despite going down a man for the final 25 minutes. Germany will be making their 15th consecutive finals appearance next summer.
Earlier in the day, a 1-1 draw with Malawi was good enough to see Les Éléphants punch their ticket to the global soccer rave for a second straight time.

By this time tomorrow, it's possible we could have as many as 23 qualified, with the USMNT, Mexico, Italy, Serbia, Slovakia, Sweden, Switzerland, Chile, Ecuador and Tunisia all in targeting range heading into their weekend tilts.
By the way, I'm still crossing my fingers on being able to do a U.S. v Honduras LIVE. I'd say the chances are about 70% and rising.

Is today the day the Cards get back in it greg? I have tickets to game 5 if it comes back to LA so im torn between wanting to see the dodgers advance and wanting to see them live with a chance to lose the series!
It had better be, huh?
It is extremely difficult to beat the Cardinals at home when their backs are against the wall. If the Redbirds I know show up this weekend, you best hang on to that ticket.
If the dodgers dont take this game and Carpenter and Wainright are there for games 4 and 5 I will be frightened to say the least. Carpenter wont mess up twice and wainright is a beast!
Anyways a little soccer at least - Who do you think starts in place of dempsey? between feilhaber, torres and holden i think we have some quality to fill the spot.
My guess is Holden. Could just as well be Benny, though. I doubt it's Torres.
I'm not counting on it, but I would not be at all surprised if Bob trotted out Frankie at LB tonight instead of Bornstein. You have to figure Frankie was brought in for a reason, and not just to be the third RB on the roster.
I just can't believe that we have TWO high-quality outside backs in Spector and Cherundolo...only to see us trot out a washed-up Hejduk or an extremely overvalued Bornstein.
If either of the latter play at left-back, we're doomed.
I agree, Bryan. I think it'll be 'Dolo and Hejduk.
bham, I think Frankie has shown he can fill in well on the CONCACAF road.
I know you're a huge Hejduk fan, but all I can see is him getting a horrific red card in a must-win road situation.
He was a reasonable defender in his 20s, but he no longer got the ability to defend guys like Suazo or Pavon or Costly.
Still, why would we start Cherundolo AND Spector? Both of them are great defenders, and bette than Hejduk\Bornstein by a large, large margin.
