The Guzan Show

Thanks to an NSC reader's diligence (and Spanish), we have a proper video report of ambitious Aston Villa keeper Brad Guzan's lights out display on Wednesday night. I thought it deserved it's own post.

Maybe the best goal keeping game highlights i've ever seen.

If we go to a shootout in the knock out stages of the world cup can we sub Brad in for tim howard?

I was just thinking the other day that keepers are making more progress in learning to stop penalties than strikers are in learning to take them. How typical might this caliber of performance be? I wonder how Guzan will do against penalties in the future.

Friedel must rank as one of the top 10 keepers since the inception of the Premier League. Howard must be in the top 10 playing in the world today. And now I think it's apparent that Guzan is one of the top 10 goalkeeping prospects across the globe. People lament that the talent gap drops way off after Guzan, but I think we need to remind ourselves that those acts are nigh impossible to follow, and that we're still blessed for options between the posts.

Nice to see we're in capable hands when Howard takes a step back.

Sigh. If only we could crank out as good of outfield players as we seem to do with national team keepers.
