Father explains Enke depression

If like me, you were wondering and wondering what got Hannover 96 and Germany keeper Robert Enke so depressed to end his life last week, his father has revealed a stunning cause: fear of failure on the pitch.

And here's the kicker... Dirk Enke is a sports psychologist.

Somehow, this episode just became much sadder and much more confusing.

It seems to me that suicide is such a layered and multi-faceted thing that it's nearly impossible to pinpoint exactly when and where a person decides to take their own life--but this is exactly the kind of thing that people are naturally inclined to investigate after a loved one's suicide. How sad. He must have been very troubled, indeed, to have made that decision and felt justified in doing so.
