I know we had one yesterday, but so much has been going on that we have another. And I meant to have it up sooner, so a few of these may be old news to some...#1 - The National Soccer Hall of Fame has unveiled this year's list of nominees, which includes the two gentleman pictured at left.
#2 - Yesterday, MLS tabbed Seattle forward Fredy Montero as Newcomer of the Year and Chivas USA keeper Zach Thornton as the Comeback Player of the Year. I nailed both of those with my votes, but they may have been the two easiest to pick.
Today, L.A. boss Bruce Arena was named Coach of the Year for the second time. I had Da Bruce second, so I can live with that choice - but I am still stunned that my pick, Preki, wasn't even a finalist.
Not only that, but now apparently he could lose his job. Cuckoo.
#3 - Oi vey. We have the MLS Players Association dropping an "S-bomb" on one hand. On the other, we have USL splintering with a new league competing for second flight status.
#4 - We go back to the St. Louis Business Journal for a report on that city's efforts to host World Cup matches for the first time.
On the topic of World Cups, the folks over at World Soccer Shop asked me to mention the adidas Heritage Collection of official tourney balls through the years. So I did.
#5 - Recovering USMNT defender Oguchi Onyewu says not to worry, he will be back before World Cup.
#6 - I'm trying to chat with one key guy from each remaining MLS playoff team this week. Last night, I posted a bit with L.A. defender Gregg Berhalter and this morning one with RSL midfielder Andy Williams.
Next up? I shall be ringing up Houston handyman extraordinaire Geoff Cameron in a couple of hours and you will wake up to that article at S365 tomorrow.
The fourth club? They don't seem as chatty right now.
#7 - Of course, you probably saw that Peter Vermes is taking the reins at Kansas City. But I'll include just in case someone missed it.
#8 - The BBC does a bit of a forlorn piece on Belenenses loan item Freddy Adu.
#9 - As I'm sure everyone heard, Hannover 96 keeper Robert Enke took his own life on Tuesday. He was only 32 and it is such a damn shame even before you get anywhere near the fact that he looked a decent bet for the starting Germany job at World Cup next summer.
It doesn't seem to make any sense, and that's why anyone suffering from depression should seek some professional help.
I tried to find an mp3 of the Hannover 96 song "Alte Liebe" to make Cut of the Day, but couldn't find one. Perhaps though, this video tribute is even better.
