It will be talked about for a long time: a World Cup berth "handed" to France. Thierry's Henry helping hand assist (and a blown offside call) teed up William Gallas for the extra time clincher to leave Ireland feeling backhanded...
... but that was hardly the only drama on hand.
Earlier, Algeria, Greece and Slovenia procured invites to South Africa via upsets, with Portugal closing out a tidy sweep of popular underdog pick Bosnia.
Read all about it here, we have one slot left to fill today... and yes, the man on the left below was Slovenia's goal hero.

FIFA really has a lot of credibility on that instant replay issue now.
I can see the ref missing the hand ball, but the linesman too? Offsides, yes, but it's borderline from their vantage point. Either way, felt bad for Ireland.
i hope France loses all 3 of their matches.
I'm mostly italian, but my irish side is pissed.
granted, it was definitely a hand ball but the irish dude (is that kitson?) completely whiffs on the ball and lets it bounce right in front of him. terrible defending.
Maybe I'm missing something, but who is offside on the play?
Ireland was robbed. Plain and simple.
It reminds me of the handball assist Mathis had to Wolff in a qualifier for the US back in 2002 qualifying. Sadly, this stuff happens and there is not much that can be done about it.
Well... let's be fully accurate, Desert Rat. Ireland was robbed of a fair chance to earn a place, not of a place itself.
It's kinda like when Titans fans say they "almost won the Super Bowl" when the Rams' Mike Jones made the big goal line tackle in 1999.
Ireland still may have lost the game, but yes... they were robbed of that chance.
