Scoring points

Serie A started 2011 with an audacious gem from Slovenian starlet Josep Illicic (who wasn't in South Africa) for Palermo yesteday:

There was a cracking clash in Genoa, while Milan and Udinese played a crazy eight-goal game, but Italian talk centred on Napoli's 3-0 demolition of Juve, with Uruguayan Edinson Cavani netting a hat-trick, as a commentator gives up on objectivity:

La Liga's back too, with Barça still looking awesome after a 4-0 away win at Deportivo La Coruña and Ronaldo & Kaka dispatched Giuseppe Rossi & pals with aplomb.

The big game in England was 'King Kenny' Dalglish's homecoming as Liverpool manager, with referee Howard Webb making more friends.

A taste of 2022 as Qatar hosts the Asian Cup in Doha. Australia kicked off by trouncing India, anointed this week by Sepp Blatter as a future World Cup host.

And finally, will the Greek gods come down from Olympus to let this team score, please?
