Who likes goals?

The Distracter wants me to try The Mentalist. I said it sounds like an Aldi brand, unfunny Psych and she only likes that 'coz Shawn and Gus are on offseason hiatus. We exchanged Bronx cheer faces, nothing was solved. Any reviews of this show out there? If you have one that solidly backs my position of stubbornness, even better...

Let's begin today with a clip from a full reel. The first is solely Nathan Smith's crazy lazed target show to win the U-17 CONCACAF crown for the U.S. in Sunday extras. The second video contains that match's full highlights. Have a pick.

Technically, one could say this impossible goal by Nice's Kafouma Coulibaly "came through" Carlos Bocanegra's area. Still, I don't think we can blame the USMNT skipper. What do you think? Even better than Roberto Carlos' famous strike?

My boy Wesley Sneijder is so cool and economically-sized that he can bury free kicks in an aquarium.

Though none of the four would probably make our honor roll individually, I think it is safe to say the Palermo keeper Salvatore Sirigu is going to have work-related stress trauma nightmares about Udinese's Alexis Sanchez for a looooong time. I wish I had stock in his therapist.

Is there a doctor in the house? I only ask because Bari's Abdelkader Ghezzal has a dire sickness.

Finally, I was not aware South Koreans liked quite so much mustard on a hot dog. Monaco's Park-Chu Young shows me - nay! - shows us all what's up with that.

You're not the only one who saw the similarity.

while the mentalist is cornyish drama, i still think its a fun show to get into. never seen psych so cant comment.

that said: a few months back i was in my illegal dvd place over in the armenian quarter here in beirut and the little boy there handed me 'lie to me' because he remembered that i bought the mentalist. it blows the mentalist out of the water. tim roth is a beast and makes the lead of the mentalist seem small change. plus there are plenty of references to his characters shadey past as a west ham hooligan past. give it a go and let me know.

While the Coulibaly goal was nice (though maybe not enough to replace the dread upon hearing the name 'Coulibaly')...was it really so nice as to need to be posted 3 times?

Mentalist is decent enough to sate yourself until the next season of Sean+Gus.

That being said, I hear this could possibly be their last season? Consider me depressed at the thought of a life without Psych.

@ Evan: I'm a big Tim Roth fan, so thanks.

@ Jon: Oof. Fixedededed.

Greg what shows do you watch?

Mentalist is very decent. No heavy stuff and always funny. It makes me smile, not laugh.
But there's so many better must-see shows...

The shows I make certain to catch ASAP are Dexter, Modern Family, Community and The Daily Show, which I always watch during lunch the day following a new show.

The other odd and short season (a ka cable) shows I never miss are Psych, Bored To Death, It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia and Curb Your Enthusiasm.

The other normal season broadcast shows I usually watch are The Office, The Big Bang Theory and Cougar Town. At some point, I'll probably catch up on 30 Rock, as well.

It hasn't always been that way, but obviously my viewing is currently dominated by comedy.

Did you check:
Breaking Bad, Entourage, Southland,

Only season one: Californication

mini's: Generation Kill, Band of Brothers, John Adams, Into the West, Dune, Children of Dune,

then if you got time left there's The Mentalist, Mad Men, The Pacific, Eastbound & Down

Greg Seltzer said...

I also watch Eastbound & Down, forgot about that in my cable odd-season shows. I've also had the occasional Californication on in the background, but I don't pay much attention. I catch certain scenes, it looks pretty good. I only have time for so many shows, though.

I have no interest in Entourage or Spartacus, and though I'm sure Band of Brothers is good, I've mostly stayed away from war stuff the last several years - seen more than enough of it on the news, it's the last thing I want to see usually.

I will definitely get to Breaking Bad and Mad Men at some point, along with The Wire. I usually can tackle one of the dramas during summer.

Of course, as I said, The Distracter is waging a Mentalist campaign on me. She likes all that clever mind kinda stuff.

If you haven't seen The Wire yet, you're still a tv virgin!

Breaking Bad is about as good as Dexter.

On a different note: why was Onyewu benched last night vs. U-town?

Slight muscle injury, which I've been told is his hammy. I had a story up at MLSS yesterday, but it had a short shelf life, obviously.

Odd question maybe, but do you play futsal?

Greg Seltzer said...

No futsal. There are several indoor "football courts" in multi-purpose sporthalls around town. Regular size ball, field and nets not quite as large, the sorta rubbery playing surface, usually six-a-side incl. keepers.
