Guess who won't be coming to dinner?

Much of the championship Ajax squad is flying over today for games with D.C. United and the Portland Timbers, but there are a handful of explained absences.

Mounir El Hamdaoui and Rasmus Lindgren are remaining in Amsterdam to heal injuries, while Christian Eriksen and Nicolai Boileson are sitting back to rest up before heading off to Denmark U-21 European Championship duty. There will also be none of the new talents from Young Ajax brought along, only guys who've cracked the senior team.

Just so you know it's not all bad news, recovering Uruguay sensation Nicholas Lodeiro will be making the trip in search of his first proper action since the preseason. It stands to reason that he will step in for Eriksen as the main playmaker.

And for those in the two lucky cities, be aware that Ajax generally allow people to watch them train and the players are quite accustomed to milling about with fans for pics and autographs afterwards (a daily routine in Amsterdam).

GK - Maarten Stekelenburg, Jeroen Verhoeven, Kenneth Vermeer

D - Gregory van der Wiel, Toby Alderweireld, Jan Vertonghen, André Ooijer, Daley Blind, Oleguer

MF - Vurnon Anita, Eyong Enoh, Demy de Zeeuw, Nicolas Lodeiro

A - Miralem Sulejmani, Siem de Jong, Aras Özbiliz, Lorenzo Ebecilio, Dario Cvitanich

- Greg Seltzer

Thanks for mentioning the routine of hanging around after games to interact with fans. Based on your post, I took along an Ajax shirt to RFK yesterday. My daughter got a couple of autographs and left the stadium with a nice memento of the day. Ajax's players were exceptionally accommodating.

Excellent. I'm glad you got to take part in an Ajax tradition.
