A quick hat trick

It has been a very long, draining day of work after waking up about four hours too early this morning. I have other tidbits related to American-related transfers, including the whole AS Roma mishegoss, but I am dropping in quickly with three little facts that can help you wade through that growing deluge of relevant reports:
  • The new Clint Dempsey-to-Roma rumour pushed by something called "Roma News" is flat false. I have been informed that Walter Sabatini finds him too old at 28 for 'this project'.

UPDATE: I'm not sure about the logic, either, folks... but that was the word.
  • Do bear in mind that no one at any end of this situation is going to confirm contact until the new group has at least gained the final rubber stamp at the end of the month - just a contextual hint.
  • The Boston Globe report that Roma are hopeful they could land Landon Donovan for about €10 million is accurate. I did not want to divulge that particular info just yet, but I can confirm it now that it has hit the interwebs.

And now for something completely different: me passing out.

But, Clint Dempsey is about a year younger than Landon Donovan. What makes Clint "too old" but Landon perfect for Roma's "project"?

If you want me to explain Italian logic, we are both in trouble. :D

There was also a remark about him not fitting a position of need, but that didn't make much sense to me either. I just repeat what I'm told by someone who'd know.

Now, if he'd said they thought he would cost too much for his age, that would have made sense. Maybe that's what he was getting at.

My best guess, anyway. Deuce could actually cost more than Donovan right now. I could see it.

Donovan is 29, but he is the the only real star of the USMNT. He is good on the field and out of it (see marketing).
Dempsey is 28, but he could cost more and his real role is not really clear: striker? wing? He's good but for a team betting on young players or on real stars, he doesn't fit.
