This could get interesting...

A not-quite-totally-accurate report about this has hit a paper in Italy, so it's forced goodies spill time again:
  • I have learned that among the first things AS Roma plans to do when the new American ownership group led by Thomas DiBenedetto is officially handed the keys this summer is pluck themselves a US player. The club, which will go through some management changes soon, have begun doing homework to make up a list of potential targets.

Early additions to the list? Well, so far they have jotted down the names Brad Guzan (not David Yelldell, as reported in Italy), Timothy Chandler, Michael Bradley, Sacha Kljestan, Juan Agudelo and Landon Donovan.

There will likely be more names added before they decide who to chase, but be aware that keeper and defense are two major areas of need for them this summer (as would be midfield if Daniele De Rossi leaves).
NSC readers will remember that Roma once chased Steve Cherundolo, but they are most interested these days in acquiring a young talent that can contribute at least some right away - with Donovan thus far the obvious established star exception.

Of course, I'll continue to monitor this list build, but a full proper report will need to wait for now. We just like you to know what's really going on when these reports start flying around.
