A. Nnoying. (updated)

I have been holding this for a about a week at the serious level and for longer from an interest level, and now a bunch of broken clock Brits get to reveal to the world that Sevilla have been in advanced talks to acquire Fulham ace Clint Dempsey. That is... (deep breath)... unnerving for me, as you'd imagine.

Sky also are attempting to out Aston Villa as the slightly bigger club showing interest in Deuce I notified about eons ago, but they also drag PSG back in - incorrectly, I believe. As of Thursday, Paris Saint-Germain were a fossil in this transfer saga. Long gone, like Dortmund and Milan. Perhaps something has changed, but - as we all know - broken clocks are not right three time in a day.

I can also reveal to you now that Napoli and Michael Bradley-misser Roma remain in the picture with Sevilla, but the La Liga side had a considerable lead on the crowd as of Thursday. Ah, yes... that day's name again... the same say Los Rojiblancos took a Hannover plop out of the Europa League. What I do not yet know is whether that result changed the scene - not just with them, but also with fellow dropout Roma. My story was planned for Friday, pending investigation of the effects of these Europe ousters that hasn't hit paydirt.

On Thursday, it was seeming increasingly likely that Dempsey might move to Sevilla. Now, you know basically everything I do about it. I will file a report when I figure out what has occurred since that night last week.

UPDATE: I was told that PSG are going to try a second time for Roma forward Marco Borriello. As such, I will assume the third piece of Sky's puzzle to be erroneous.

Greg,

Great stuff as always. We know that you're the real deal when compared to the know nothing British tabloids.

What kind of probability do you give of Dempsey moving before the deadline?

I have no factual clue past what I told you all, but I'm sensing there may be a new leader in the race since Thursday night.

What happened to the George John to Blackburn deal?

Greg Seltzer said...

I'm not yet sure of that either, but from what I know, it looks an awful lot like Blackburn took the checkbook away from a manager in trouble.

Only Napoli satisfy Duece's stated preference for a Champions League side. I would be bummed for him to leave Fulham for a non CL team.

Not to contradict you but they were heavily after Gio Dos Santos and it went cold after they were knocked out of European tournament. Both played somewhat similar and have the same price value so what's the difference?

Greg Seltzer said...

Well, I do not feel they play similar at all, but I'm not sure what you fell you've contradicted.

what do you got on bradley to chievo? you need to post this stuff when you 1st learn, and not "hold" secrets and then claim you knew about them for weeks once someone else publishes it. my 2cents

I cannot always post when I first learn, for various reasons. I'm here to get it correct, not first.

As for Bradley, scroll down the front page.

Well, Deuce is cup-tied, so his Champions League ambitions need to be about getting on a team and helping them get there next season

Greg Seltzer said...

He's cup-tied to the Europa League, not the Champions League.

Bryan said...

Oh, I thought that cup-tying in Euro comps worked both ways. Good to know.

Phil McCracken said...

Madrid did that with Lass Diara in the Champions League a few years back when he had already played for Pompey in UEFA Cup.

@Brian: ou can also find Greg's updates on MLSSoccer.com sometimes before he mentions them here.

And you'll quickly learn Greg values getting it right more than posting first (as much as I'm sure he'd like to be first, too).

Thanks for the journalistic integrity, Greg. If people don't understand what it takes to cultivate good sources and/or holding onto something until you can truly back it up, just link them to the UK rags. If they enjoy getting their chain jerked for no reason, they'll love those sites.

With Dempsey meeting the team in Belgium and not LA, okay to assume JK is letting him sort out his club situation this week?

Jay said...

Or, maybe just maybe it's because Dempsey is a known quantity that doesn't need to be tested against middling CONCACAF foes like Costa Rica...

strago said...

I think it's more what Bryan is referring to TBH.

Or even more alternately, according to Sporting News:

U.S. Soccer also announced Monday that midfielder Clint Dempsey will join the team for only the latter match because he’s receiving treatment for back spasms in London, where he plays for Fulham.

Brian... now you can clearly see one reason I hold things and wait.

By the time Sky Sports reported this, it was no longer true. :)
