Okay, last time I bug you all today... I think. (updated)

Let's hit a few more items to send him from work with more to ponder than you know what to do with..
  • Unfortunately, it looks like a Mo Edu move to Auxerre that was all ready to go has been binned because Delvin N'Dinga now isn't leaving to Lyon. That sounded like a really good idea to me, too. Though QPR are still interested, they kinda seem interested in every other midfielder out there.
  • More bad news, I'm afraid: Leeds were all set to make an official transfer offer for Aston Villa's Eric Lichaj on Wednesday... until he received a hip diagnosis Tuesday evening that will probably keep him out until 2012. For what it's worth, I'm about 98% sure Villa would have shot the Leeds offer out of a cannon and laughed.
  • New Eintracht Frankfurt management has categorized Ricardo Clark with the surplus goods and are shopping him around. Austrian champs Sturm Graz were interested, but the midfielder is paying his attention to a Ligue 1 club that has been calling. Will he move by tomorrow? I will guess not, though you never know what can happen on deadline day.
  • Liverpool summer signing Villian Bijev will now be going on loan to 2.Bundesliga outfit Fortuna Düsseldorf instead of Genk... and you will never in a million lifetimes guess why the change. I am still having trouble believing it myself.

Get this: when it came time to actually complete the paperwork and all for the loan, after the kid had been there for week in with the squad and playing friendlies, the Belgian club (wait for iiiiiiiiit...) suddenly demanded they be paid a large sum to take him for the year.

Let that sink in for a minute. Read it again to make sure you got it right. Genk wanted Liverpool pay them the loan fee. A sizable one.

    Yeah.

No, I've never heard of such a thing either.

    Belgians, man.
  • UPDATE: Forgot something... forgive me, I'm tired. Tomorrow, I will file a report on loans for Gale Agbossoumonde (to Eintracht Frankfurt) and Tony Taylor (to Portuguese second flighters Atletico CP).

Maybe this is Genk's way of telling Liverpool that they need to invest in a better scouting network?

I jest, I jest...

I think it's Genk's way of telling Liverpool that they're congenitally insane.

This boggles my mind.

Is Genk one of Liverpool's affiliate clubs? More to the point, did Liverpool inform Genk that they'd be sending Bijev to them for the year, or did Genk request his services from Liverpool?

I'm presuming that Bijev doesn't have EU citizenship -- perhaps Genk decided that the service of getting him a Belgian passport was worth selling.

So what's the deal with Fulham? They just bought Bryan Ruiz from Twente, which would (you'd think) indicate a Dempsey move soon?

Also, why in the world are they intent on breaking up the Hangeland\Hughes partnership that has been so solid?

@ Jay: I don't know who initiated the idea, but it was a mutual agreement until Genk went Gordon Gekko. And yeah, the essence I get is that they determined that they deserved a "development fee" type of thing since he's such a hot prospect. Looney tunes.

@ bham: Ummm... I would not say that a Ruiz purchase necessarily means a Dempsey sale. I think they wanted another attacker anyway.

It could be related to a Deuce departure, but I don't think it automatically means he's gone now.

any other info you can share on the Leeds offer for Lichaj? any idea what the amount would have been?

Greg Seltzer said...

Oh... and Hughes is not exactly a Martin Jol type of defender. The Dutch prefer center backs who can play some soccer.

@ Clueless Yank:

No clue the monetary amount of the planned offer, but it was going to be a transfer offer, not for a loan.

If I had to guess, I'd imagine it would be at least a million pounds if they didn't want to get laughed out of the building.

That's unbelievable, Greg. I've never heard of that being done.

The very definition of ballsy.

Any word on Jermaine Jones' situation with Schalke? Is there any chance he moves before the end of Wednesday?

Greg Seltzer said...

I believe Jones is being shopped around, but nobody is talking. I don't know if that means he has no serious interest or some that they want to keep quiet for some reason.

I think it's Genk's way of telling them to stick it since Liverpool has been a bitch about loaning players for the entire two years they've been "working together". From the 10 players that have been ASKED only one came and that took them a year to make it happen...
