Soon... America won't be able to resist falling in love.

With soccer, that is. Ya see, USWNT star netminder Hope Solo has been revealed as a contestant in the next season of #3 Nielsen Ratings show Dancing With The Stars. The premiere is set for ABC on September 19th. Finally, something soccer widows can watch with the hubby. It's all part of soccer's plan to "28 Days Later" the nation.

The next diabolical plan step? Four words. Clint Dempsey. Iron Chef.

You've probably noticed I'm an America's Best Dance Crew freak. I have, however, never watched any of the other dancing shows from back home, and I claim no technical expertise beyond the realm of hip-hop dancing. Nevertheless, I am hereby volunteering to follow and critique Hope's outings here at NSC as she works toward another title. It will be my pleasure.

Just to be 100% clear: are you claiming technical expertise in the world of hip hop dancing? If so, you're gonna need to elaborate on that...

Yes, if pressed, I will claim to have technical expertise on various forms of hip-hop dancing. I was also once 15, ya know. :D

I used to be into all that old-school stuff, popping, waving, breaking. I still study it, know what's new, etc. I'm certainly no stranger to a dance floor. That's not to say I could choreograph or battle Kevin Brewer or teach a class.

I'd battle that biter, Auto-Tune fraud punk Chris Brown, though.... he's whack. I'd shut him down on principle. You can tell him I said so.

Full disclosure: that second promised non-soccer Top 5 will be an America's Best Dance Crew edition. I've been waiting until the transfer window closed to drop it. In that, will be commentary on hip-hop dancing and you can be the judge.

Sounds like a very tough job Greg...you sure The Distracter is going to allow it? ;)

Heh. I will do well not to let her take it over completely. She loves the dance shows, watches them all.

You should have titled this post: "and now for something completely different". Soccer scribe, group therapist for Big Soccer refugees, and part-time break dancer. Who knew?

Speaking of: I just watched part of Flash Dance the other day (don't laugh, Jennifer Beals was smoking hot when I was 10) and there's some great break dancing in that movie.

Anyway, I don't even know who Kevin Brewer is, so I don't get the reference. But this hip hop dancing adds a whole new facet to NSC.

If you go to today's Cut of the Day, Kevin is the JabbaWockeeZ member who begins their practice goof-around freestyle from a sitting position.

And to see him in battle, he is second up in this clip. As the announcer says, his nickname is "Super Galactic Beat Manipulator"...

Here he is doing more freestyle (read: improv) at some school appearance by the Jabbas.

Oops, I chopped the second link.

By the way, that first video is much quieter than the second, so be sure to turn your volume way back down before playing the second link.

Nobody beats Tight Eyez. Dude is a robot from the future.

Greg Seltzer said...

Ya know... Tight Eyez is pure krumping beast, but... it's tough to put that form of dance in a routine for several people.

For krumping, though, he's the guy who invented it and the guy who reps it and brings all thunder. No doubt. He kinds scares me, actually.

But I'm a popper at heart and KB is the master. He puts stuff that isn't popping into popping - plus he can dance to a dripping faucet, any hip-hop style you want. It's crazy.

I've watched that battle clip of him hundreds of times and when he backs up to hit that insane tracing move at about 1:33, I STILL burst into laughter every time because it's so sick. Every time, audible laugh, no lie.

I did catch a little bit of last season's ABDC and it was obvious that something was lost in translation when Tight Eyez had an entire crew behind him trying to shoehorn that angular style into various dance challenges. But if you were in a one-on-one battle with the guy, I'm pretty sure you'd spontaneously combust.
