What's not to like here? He called in everyone I have been asking for.

It sounds like it's these guys shot to move up the depth chart.

Gonzalez talked the talk, now he needs to back it up.

I will be interested to see the CB depth chart after this camp.

An update on Clark's status (which I might have missed) at Frankfurt would be much appreciated.

@ strago:

I was actually making a joke. And I do not have great quarrel with the roster.

That being said... I will find ways to critique like I'm a Masterchef judge. You know that. AT least until they pay me to be a Masterchef judge.

I am actually surprised to not see that many complaints from people. Nice to have that once in a while! I guess the only person I am surprised not to see is Rolfe(not sure if hes available). Would have loved for Klinsmann to call up EJ and Bornstein just for the reactions

@ Harris:

He really kinda has no status AT Eintracht right now, sadly. He's looking for an escape route that has been shy to present itself thus far. There's been some hello interest, but nothing's advanced much. If he moves this winter, I'd guess it would happen nearer to the deadline.

Thanks. So he has been given the ol' 'free to find a new club' status. And I guess the January camp well help him stay in shape and potentially stay on Klinsmann's radar.

Oh I knew you wouldnt have any major issues with it and were making a joke ;)

I'm Glad Wondo and Clark are getting a second chance. In my opinion, when Clark's in form, he and Bradley seem to be the best central midfield option for the US. I'm glad the best out-and-out forward in MLS is getting another shot with the Nats...

Other than that, I'm happy with the squad.

There was an article on MLSS a week or so ago about the visit to Germany that Klinsy set up for Jason Kreis. It was all training sessions... except for watching an Eintracht match. Maybe he was scouting our boy Rico for a return to the league? Does Houston still hold Clark's MLS rights, or would he be free to get distributed by the allocation table?

Greg Seltzer said...

Don't take this as gospel, as I may be mistaken, but I think they still retain his rights a little longer. It's only been a year.

Following up on my own question (like a boss?). MLS Roster Rules, section 3.C:

"When a player’s contract expires, the player does not count against the roster or budget of the team in question. Subject to the Re-Entry Draft rules, a team retains the rights to the player indefinitely following the expiration of a contract only if attempts were made to re-sign the player."

I would presume that Houston made an offer to Clark at the end of his contract (why wouldn't they?), and thus retain his rights.

On the other hand, I presume as well that player rights are as subject to trade as anything else in MLS.

I do not know if they made him an offer or not.

Oh, I didn't mean to probe for direct knowledge -- just engaging in baseless speculation :)
