Everton v Bolton LIVE

Landon Donovan starts along with Tim Howard for Everton tonight. Kickoff is approaching and there is pre-game (if no also in-game) commentary available at Radio BBC Merseyside. Of course, I'll break in with the key updates for those unlucky souls stuck at work right now.

.56 PM ET - It seems as though you can listen to the action live through that radio link. How do you like that??

.58 PM - Running down the Toffees line-up, the BBC announcer adds that this is Howard's 250th career EPL start. Donovan gets a nice ovation when announced at Goodison.

00 PM - The BBC cuts off radio coverage. Sorry if I got anyone too happy for a moment there.

' - The TV channel went down for a moment, but we're on the clock now.

' - Howard easily saves a weak Eagles shot, the first of the game.

' - Naturally, in Donovan's first game away from Los Angeles, it's raining.

' - Bolton right back Steinsson scuffs a long shit well wide of Howard's goal. He was a much better player without hair.

' - Donovan battles in the air for a cross, blooping a reverse header into the waiting arms of the keeper. Technically, though, that counts as Everton's first shot on goal.

' - Ngog takes a silly yellow for tripping Distin at midfield. And yes, I'm trying to get the line-ups up for you.

' - Just after Osman misses just wide from a right wing Donovan cross, Saha lets Knight off the hook for a flub, squandering a prime Everton chance by mishandling.

' - Pardon me, it was Stracqualursi - not Osman - who flashed wide just then. I need a shorthand for this guy, let's call him "Straq" - like Shaq, but not.

' - Howard tips over a high-deflected second chance corner cross. The ensuing corner is over everyone and out.

' - Reo-Coker into the book for taking down a runaway Osman. Baines delivers a great long restart, but Straq can't find the trigger at ground level and it's cleared.

Everton line-up: Howard; Hibbert, Distin, Jagielka, Baines, Heitinga, Neville, Donovan, Osman, Saha, Stracqualursi

Bolton line-up: Bogdan, Steinsson, Knight, Cahill, Ricketts, Muamba, Reo-Coker, Davies, Petrov, Eagles, Ngog

' - Donovan makes a good charge forward, but Ricketts shields him away from a ball up the middle and plays away.

' - Donovan whistled after ticking the heel of Ricketts in pursuit of a ball to the right corner.

' - Same exact type of foul happens to Donovan at midfield, but no call. This is, of course, the common "officiating by field location of the incident" process.

' - Jagielka has two pops at a corner kick, but both are blocked.

' - Donovan starts a move that goes through four and ends with Osman missing the far post from the right channel. At the other end, a Jagielka communication breakdown gifts Bolton a corner. The Eagles serve somehow bounces through the middle of the area untouched until Hibbert clears from the other side.

' - The center backs on each side are struggling with high balls in the heavy wind.

' - Hobbled a moment earlier, Jagielka is coming off. Rodwell coming on.

' - Ricketts makes a bit of contact with Donovan sprinting into the area on a Strak lay-off and he goes down a little easy one step into the area. The ref isn't buying it.

' - Insipid passing and defending allow Ngog a chance to light the cannon from 20, but Howard smacks it out for a corner that becomes two, with neither amounting to anything. With another look from another angle, the Donovan now looks more like a penalty. It's a tough one to call.

As they head to the locker rooms, the announcers admit they aren't sure whether the late Donovan dip was a dive or a penalty call missed. We're scoreless at the break and Everton visitors are now scoreless in the last 197 minutes against Howard in the friendly confines.

' - Game on. An Osman lead pass into the area is just a little too heavy for Donovan to reach.

' - Two Everton corner kicks pinball about some, with Rodwell eventually shoveling wide on the second.

' - Everton are suddenly very Swiss cheese and Howard has to make a sublime toe save on jail-breaker Davies. Timmy was down with the sickness there, folks.

' - Osman, probably Howard's MOTM competition at this point, seems to be struggling. And then he departs for the young Frenchmen Guaye.

' - The color analyst: "At this time, that first goal becomes pretty crucial."

In unrelated news, water is kinda wet.

' - With Donovan creeping, Bogdan grabs a high cross out of the cyclone wind.

' - Ngog gets loose enough to put a nasty far post curler on target and Howard swats it wide with a yawn. The corner comes to nothing.

' - Another look at the replay shows a great technical save by Timmy as Cahill comes on for a nicked Rodwell. That's all three Everton subs, Donovan goes 90 today.

' - You won't believe this... but Howard has just put Everton up 1-0. His long boot bounces over Bogdan into the net.

' - Ngog weaves through more Swiss cheese and swats this chance past a helpless Howard from 12 meters. It's 1-1, tie game.

' - Donovan sets up possession, but the eventual Baines cross is straight the keeper.

' - Everton have a 65-35 possession advantage, but are going to the high ball into the wind well too exclusively.

' - Distin booked for a late run in on Ngog.

' - Everton have more adventures at the back and Cahill rifles home from the corner of the six. It's now 2-1 for Bolton.

' - A flicked Saha free kick header flies just over.

' - Pratley on for Eagles.

' - Kevin Davies, who has six career strikes against Everton, is on for Ngog.

+1' - As three minutes of added time starts. Everton's possession edge for the game has quickly dropped to 59-41.

+2' - Cahill is carded for hauling down Guaye straight above the area. Baines is taking it...

+3' - The Baines free kick cracks the bar loud. Everton pour forward to win one last corner...

+4' - The Baines corner kick is too long and the final whistle blows. Bolton win 2-1.

Have a good one, folks. I will put the Howard goal clip in a new post.

How would you rate Landon's performance overall (apologize if you have a full post dedicated to this on MLSSoccer, I haven't checked).
