I love a good guessing game.

Red Bulls GM Erik Soler says he's about to sign two, if not three "young" Americans with international experience. Before we even think about possible transfers, do realize that quite the crew of U.S. youth prospects are free agents.

My first thought was erstwhile Sogndal keeper Joe Bendik - but I can't confirm he's actually spent time with the junior Nats. Just off the top of my head, you have Samir Badr, Aaron Maund, Alex Nimo, Fuad Ibrahim and Kyle Davies out of contract, not to mention Kamani Hill. Stefan Jerome's loan is up at Sigma Olomouc. If there is a transfer in the bunch, my pre-investigation sense (as in no news reveal here, just educated guessing) is we could maybe think about guys like Dominic Cervi or Lester Dewee, or perhaps someone south of the border... even as far down as hometown boy Diego Chavarri down in Peru? Some wilder ideas I'll keep close to vest for now, in case I find out one of them is true.

So who has a proper guess or NYRB fan dream preference to offer? And is this a concerted effort to make sure the squad maintains a strong American footprint? I'm curious.

I have heard talk about Gale Agbossoumonde but I think he would have to go through the allocation process. Seeing as they have no keepers on the roster at all and the Scandanavian contacts, Joe Bendik seems like a good guess.

Soler says Agbossoumonde is not one of those players.

Regarding your question about stockpiling Americans, wouldn't one of the drivers be they are typically more "affordable" than established European players? I assume RBNY gets more for their money with young Americans, while appealing to the core fans desire to see some of the US players come back home. It's great to see guys like Arguez, Nguyen, Feilhaber coming home to play, and it's certainly one of the reasons to watch MLS...

I was thinking more along the lines of re-upping the American in the squad than of financial concerns. But I suppose that's a pretty good aspect to ponder, as well.

Conor Doyle? May be far fethced but he's slipped down the pecking order at Derby and I beleive is only on a 2-yr. contact. No doubt the talent's there and its probably no falut of his he's slipped.

Wasn't Fuad Ibrahim's first pro contract with NYRB, and didn't they toss him on waivers?

Bah. I suppose I could have double checked that. FC Dallas drafted him, and TFC tossed him on waivers just as soon as his GenAdidas contract was up.

Actually, as long as we're thinking about goalkeepers, what about Kevin Piedrahita?

Fuad was traded from FC Dallas to Toronto, who let him go. I think you're mixing him up Salou Ibrahim, a veteran striker from Ghana.

Sorry, M Vann... I thought about Doyle, but I think Derby are still fairly high on him. I've wondered if he hasn't had an injury or two this season.

What about someone like Grella? He seems like he could use a change of scenery.

That's not a half-bad idea, Matt. Good call.
