A coupla things...

I am being mercilessly hammered by illness brought on by food poisoning right now, but I heard a couple things today you all would probably be quite interested by. So I've belly-crawled to the desk like a little trooper just to share:

  • Charlie Davies is in the provisional squad for tomorrow's key match at fellow relegation fighters Ajaccio. The word I got out of France is that he is even in with a shot to start, depending on how today's training went with the attack combinations.
  • Recent dug-up rumours linking AS Roma with interest in Clint Dempsey are false. I won't speak of the other Deuce scuttlebutt or his scene in general just yet, but let's stick with the Giallorossi for a moment.

I have been told that the honchos still want to capture an American player, and I am also told that technical director Walter Sabatini is only interested in Michael Bradley at this time. However, Roma still do not know who their manager will be next season, nor do they know whether they will make it into Europe (which obviously affects the budget). On top of that, Mikey's price tag went up a fair bit this season and the Stadio Olimpico folks will need to spend efficiently.

Now you know where that whole until-now failed project stands. It still exists and it still has Bradley as the clear GM's office preference. At the same time, back corridor buzz says Sabatini may go for Andre Villa-Boas as manager, and I have no idea what he might think of acquiring Bradley.

Timely side note: Bradley dominated the Roma midfield in a 0-0 draw today.

It was excellent to see Bradley continue his form today on that rain-soaked field, but it makes me even happier to read about Davis possible playing time, as I was getting worried not seeing his name on game day rosters for the past several weeks. How much longer is his contract with Souchaux?

Through next season.

Bradley nearly put through one of his forwards for a goal today on a brilliant chipped pass from just outside the area, but the dude was a smidge offside. Considering the conditions it was even more impressive. He's on blistering form lately.

Davies is all but guaranteed loan bait... question is where can he get the regular minutes he so badly needs to prove he's recovered and fit for 1st Division play?

I love the idea of Bradley at Roma, Deuce too, even if its only fan fantasy right now. MB & his agent should consider offering his services on an incentivized 1 year deal with little/no upfront pay bump instead of pushing for a premium raise. It would be a nice gesture to win over fans and mangement at time of financial difficulty for a prooud club. If they reach Europe the next season, if he scores a bunch or records a surplus of clean sheets, he can cash in then.

I'm not sure what you mean by offer his services on a one-year deal. For starters, Bradley is not a free agent this summer - he would command a transfer fee. Secondly, no rising player will go around trying to sign a one-year contract for peanuts.

Not today, but that may have had something to do with two Sochaux red cards. He was dressed for bench duty, though.
