Euro 2012 - Day Six

Please do excuse my tardiness. Ik was hele crabby gisternacht.

Portugal 3 Denmark 2

Fasten your seatbelts for this one. I told you the Danes were no joke - but a Portugal sub still got the last laugh.

NSC Man of the Match: Fábio Coentrão (Portugal)

Germany 2 Netherlands 1

There's clearly something awry with the new Van Marwijk construction of the Dutch attack. The Germanoids, meanwhile, did about as you'd expect they'd do. And there ya go.

NSC Man of the Match: Mats Hummels (Germany)

Oops. Thanks.

I hope for the next game Holland can figure something out. Kuyt for Robben, Narsingh for Affelay. I was never keen with Skels in Goal either...

Stekelenburg kept them in the game.

So do you agree about the wing changes for the Portugal Match? What's your opinion about the Eftaal's game (prognosis) against Portugal, besides praying?

Barry Glendenning of the Guardian had Bendtner, before the tournament, listed as his choice for top scorer. And dammit, he just may be right, especially if the Germans and Danes find a way to draw and, thus, eliminate the Dutch (which seems to be both of their benefit).

mario gomez against holland showed what this game is all about. that was a three point bonus performance. gomez was so brilliant and if anyone outperformed him, it was his provider schweinsteiger.

how anyone other than one of these two players could be considered man of the match is really sort of beyond me. unless, ah, nevermind. its like germanoid, i mean, what the heck is germanoid about a team with an ozil and a boatang?

The term "Germanoid" is a joke term I use with my German friends. It just means they are programmed to win.

As for a Hummels pick being beyond you, I can't imagine why. He has been their best player through two games, and from my viewpoint the best in each game. This, of course, does not mean I think Gomez and Basti were sub-par in the second game.

i understand, im sure you dont think they were sub-par. hummels is fantastic. who do you think is the closest to represent him on the usa? cameron. this is the kind of center back usa needs.

As I've said, my feelings is that the position where Cameron may have the highest potential is defensive midfielder. I am aware many folks do not agree with me on this.

Frankly, to develop this kind of defender will take time, mainly because the old ways did not lend to developing such a defender. The new ways do, but it's not instant. These types of players now need to come through the new way US youth system.
