Italy 1 Spain 1
The defending champs did what they do, but forgot to field a striker - and I'm including Torres. The Italians countered them marvelously and deserved their share.
NSC Man of the Match: Andrés Iniesta (Spain)
Croatia 3 Ireland 1
The Irish conceded three at a major tourney for the first time because they were no midfield match, allowing Croatia's offense to out-muscle them.

Iniesta was a beast. The Spanish never cease to amaze me with their vision over the entire field, it is remarkable to watch. I just get the feeling they are really going to miss Villa at some point. I have to believe Llorente will get his chance soon.
I thought that was a foul on Balotelli which should have been a PK and a Red for Ramos. He went through Balotelli to get the ball. But I seem to be the only one who thinks so. But when most commentators call it a, "miracle recovery" by Ramos, is it Balotelli hatred? I don't much care for him and hate the Italians for playing so defensively the last 30 years (seems like they might be coming out of that), but looked like a clear penalty.
