Holding the phone...

Please do not become alarmed, but I'm here to inform you all that a second club has submitted an offer for Chievo midfielder Michael Bradley. I am still checking into who raised their auction paddle, but have a hunch it came from outside Italy - which would probably mean that team is set to be out of luck when Mikey heads to Roma anyway.

To wit, check out a comment made this morning by Chievo director Giovanni Sartori in Gazzetta Giallorossa:

"For us, it would have been better to sell him abroad, but the player wants to stay in Italy."

Hmmm, okay then. And what of the Roma negotiations, now with fly in the works?

"We're talking continuously. Let's be clear: if they want him, they’ll get him. Bradley wants only AS Roma and we’re working towards this."

Like I said, don't get alarmed; this is the transfer window, stuff happens. I'll stay on this and keep everybody posted. Just please buckle up, and keep your arms and legs inside the ride at all times.

Interesting. I wonder if it's a Champions League club outside of Italy.

These updates have made my weekend semi-bearable. You know, being without power for 56 hours and counting now!

Thanks Greg.

Boo. Unless that other club rhymes with Fiverpool or Ranchester United then this needs to get done. Why can't there ever be a seamless and painless transfer?

Well, Rob, that's because we are humans in life on Earth. :D

I wouldn't worry, it still very much seems Bradley will be going to Roma.

Well Twitter is blowing up like it's a done deal so hopefully it doesn't fall through and make everyone look bad.

Heh. My MLSS report says the clubs agreed a fee and personal terms were being negotiated. Whatever happens now, that was a correct story. I really don't look at what everyone else is reporting much, so if anyone claimed it was a done deal as of this morning, they were incorrect.

But as I said, I'd imagine he's still headed to Roma.

Hey Greg - any hint as to what league the late bidder plays in?

Greg Seltzer said...

I have an idea, but don't yet know if it's a good one.

Cool - I respect the hell out of the fact that you don't spout off every unsubstantiated fact that comes across your desk.

Just doing the job properly, no short cuts. I owe it all to my wonderful birdies.

You are the best in the biz, Greg.

If only you weren't so modest about it. :)

Random question: Have you heard of any Euro teams showing interest in Pontius?

strago said...

@Mike: I think hes going to be called up by Klinsi next time. He's having a hell of a year

Maybe Anderlecht ?

Chievo Verona is in talks with multiple Serie A clubs ( Fiorentina, Sampdoria and Inter Milan have been mentioned, though the Inter link appears the weakest rumor of he bunch), but nothing has been finalized.

@ Mike: Haven't heard anything, but then again I haven't so much tried to. I'll release a few hounds.

@ wides: I suppose it's possible, but if so, Anderlecht is dreaming. He won't leave Serie A for Belgium.

@ brian: Yes, but there is a distinction between "in some talks" and "made a formal offer" - and I'm unaware of Sampdoria being in the race. They would certainly seem to be of a considerably lower grade than the other clubs involved.

Also, I can assure you that Inter Milan have contacted Chievo about Bradley.

@brian you shouldnt believe a word that Ives says about transfers. He gets his stuff from the rags.

Agreed 110% about Ives v. Greg. It's a no brainer who to trust. Ives is a good cite for day to day soccer news, but Greg is your transfer guru.

ha i love how you 'rag' on ives but instantly knew that came from his site… check his sbi much? but i agree ives is garbage

@brian, so why do you quote him (ives)? strago was just calling you out and in the most kind of ways, i should add. all of us read ALL of the us-focused soccer blogs, there are less than a dozen worth reading. sbi, in general, just presents itself as being more than what it is. that's all. and i'll be really, really happy if this deal comes to fruition...for several reasons. ;)

Let's be clear here, when was the last time Ives broke, and I emphasize, broke, news?

There's been to many cases where Ives has 'broken' news only to be completely wrong or off base. I'm not here saying hes got a shitty site, just that when it comes to transfers, it's Seltzer or bust. Wahl does a pretty good job too...but he picks his spots.
