Alright, alright.

I can't go into all the details or take questions on this one, but okay, I'll comment on the Clint Dempsey scene. Basically, all I can say is that my last remarks on this pretty well hold true today: it's a live situation with a couple clubs in England and one in Italy. As demonstrated before, the story about Deuce forcing Fulham's hand to let him go to Liverpool by refusing to travel along on their preseason trip to Switzerland is inaccurate.

That out of the way, you can look forward to a small Carlos Bocanegra-related report at MLSS soon. The gist? Not that we know yet where in Europe he'll land, but I can assure you that Captain America won't be coming back to MLS at this point in time.

Thanks Greg. Sounds like he's staying to me. He'd probably be smart to sign that rumored big contract offer from Fulham if it's true. Don't see him replicating last year. Get that big payday while you can.

I'd bet anything the Italian team is AC Milan. Although if it was Roma that would be amazing.

Greg Seltzer said...

As I've said before, it's not Roma.

And that I did not also say "it's not Milan" does not necessarily mean it is Milan.

Don't think it really matters. I can't see him uprooting and moving to Italy even for CL Football. I think it's London or bust for him. I think the whole Champions League Football demand was a bit overblown.

Heh. You're very clever, Rob, but I'll say no more for now. :)

As much as he likes London, I can see him going to Italy for a strong offer from a strong CL club. He's expressed a desire to move back to the U.S., so it could be his last chance to ply his trade in an attractive European locale.

But I can see him jettisoning his CL requirement if it's with a strong EPL side in London like Tottenham.

Liverpool always seemed like a weird fit for me.

Greg - Did you end up posting a Charlie Davies postcard over at MLS? Also, I'm just hoping Dempsey ends up climbing the club ladder in any way shape or form. It's selfish and probably nonsensical, but I feel like Americans still have a perceived ceiling, and Dempsey/Bradley are starting to raise it.

I had internet issues on my travel back, so the Charlie Davies Postcard was postponed.

It would be fun to see Clint at a team like Napoli, especially since they have lost Lavezzi

By the way, it's great to hear that Boca's got options. I had hoped as much, but so many were pooh-poohing the idea and hailing an imminent return to MLS that I was starting to get worried.

Seems like history is repeating itself here, Greg...My bet is that you hold everything in until it gets leaked out by the "press". Good luck!

Feel free to list all these grievous instances. Then after that, feel free to list all the times I reported factually incorrect info. Then we can stack those lists up against the stories I've broken that nobody else had.

And then after that, I'll again state that I sometimes am asked to hold info. By doing so when it is requested, people will continue to tell me things.

Last time I checked, history repeating itself would be more along the lines of other places pretending I didn't report something first. But, please, feel free to list my demerits for all to see. I won't even reply, you can have the floor to yourselves.

I love it when people complain about stuff that is free.

Good job, Greg. Thank you.

Greg, your call for demerits only has me searching for a pun on Vancouver Jay, but in vain.

Thanks for your great info. It's never enough, but that's exactly the emotion what a good transfer seer should evoke!

Hot damn. No pleasing some people, I suppose.

obviously can't be sure, but on first read i took their comments to mean that those people were just worried about you/your scoop.. that a less scrupulous outlet would blow the lid. not necessarily complaining, but maybe poorly worded.

it's a little ambiguous to me, but i guess they could have also just been jamming you up.

trying to assume the best over here/throwing it out as a possibility.

thanks for doing what you do on this blog!

I suppose that's conceivable, but if I'm not mistaken they've each issued these types of doubts on my reports before. If I did err, I wish they'd say so.

Don't take the bait, Greg!

As to Dempsey: go to Everton. :-)

Hey, I make mistakes with memory and tone detection in written messages like any other human. If I made one, it would be nice to know so I can apologize. Still, I'm thinking I remembered correctly this time.

So Boca has dance partners in Europe. Any word on Edu or Bedoya? Thanks for all you've been doing, may not post much but you still have a constant reader.

Greg Seltzer said...

You're all welcome.

We'll talk about them soon enough.

Hey all. Greg, not to litter your comment box with unsubstantiated rag rumors, but these tidbits from the Express are a guilty pleasure: http://www.express.co.uk/posts/view/336903.

Says that:
-- Boca is "happy to stay" w/ the Gers (I don't believe it)
-- Bedoya's once imminent-seeming move to Helsingborgs fell through (what now?)
-- Edu is actively fielding interest from Serie A suitors Sampdoria and Ligue 1's Valenciennes (How many Valenci-s can Edu attract?)

Fun, fun stuff. I hope Boca goes to Germany and Edu to Ligue 1. Bedoya, man, I don't know. That move to the Gers was such a career killer.

I'd be really proud of Boca sticking with Rangers so long as he had no more USMNT aspirations. How could we call up a guy that plays in the Scottish fourth division?

It would kill us if Boca stayed at Rangers or went into a bad spot. We aren't exactly exploding at the seams at CB.

Cam said...

off topic but...any news on why Sasha isn't starting for Anderlecht? is he just not a favorite of the new manager?

Unknown said...

I'd be much happier if Cap'm Boca would show such admirable loyalty to a team that is less persistently anti-American in their inclinations. Just sayin'.

gratefulag said...

Pardon me, by "history repeating itself", I meant that (you) not commenting on potential suitors would likely result in someone else breaking the story. Wouldn't really call that a grievance, but rather reiterating the likely outcome of this course of action.

I'm calling it - Dempsey to Tottenham to replace Modric.
