Jozy Alti-DING! (updated)

Yep, the AZ striker has applied a simple finish to a Roy Beerens set-up on 16 minutes to put the hosts up 1-0 on Heracles.

If you're keeping track at home, that's the second straight year that Jozy Altidore has scored against the Almelo side at AFAS-Stadion (and the second straight winner if AZ pitches a shutout today). He also now stands alone atop the Eredivisie goal chart. Just sayin'.

UPDATE: The bell-ding means your pizza is ready.

I feel like his decision making has grown exponentially. It's like in chess, where you have to see beyond merely the next move, and see a couple of moves in advance... I see Jozy "getting it" more and more.

He's in the Ivy League of attack and he's paying attention in class.

Man, that was beautifully worked. Loved it all, especially when Jozy made sure to give credit to the crosser of the ball in his celebration (couldn't make out the other player's name).

Ah, it was Bereens.

Greg: does Jozy get the nod over Hercules G. against Jamaica?

If he doesn't, there's a problem.

Agreed, but Herr Klinsi has been known to make some strange selections. Edgar Castillo, I'm looking in your direction. You too Orozco Fiscal (but thanks for scoring). Lichaj and Sasha must have kicked his dog or something.

Lichaj will be called up. I don't think that's in doubt at all.

And Castillo had probably his best game in a US jersey against Mexico, especially given the pressure that was put on his flank. Yes, he let a ton of crosses through, but no one was driving into the box from his corner. All things considered, now that he has regular playing time again (thanks, Xolos), I think he still has an upside.

Castillo had his best game ever for the Red, White, and Blue against Mexico, no doubt about that. I guess I'm like a jilted ex, once bitten twice shy and all. If he keeps playing and improves, then fantastic, but one game out of 5-6 chances doesn't convince me yet.
