Stuff you most likely wouldn't notice

Not only did Jozy Altidore earn the Man of the Match prize at Ajax this weekend, but he was also named Player of the Day by leading Dutch publication Voetbal International yesterday. And just so you know, this feature spot is not only limited to Eredivisie and Oranje players, anyone in the world is eligible for the honor.

Plus, if you're wondering: He was one of four players to hit two goals on opening day, but the only striker to do so. Golden Boot race, anyone?

Greg, the transfer silliness is in full swing today (favorite piece of nonsense: Dempsey to Everton!). Please, please throw us a bone...?

I might have a goodie for everyone later. We'll see.

Everton! Everton! Everton!

I really hope Jozy has a monster year. I'd love to see him go back to England one day and prove he can play there.

You taunt us, Greg. I'm ready for that "Shut Up Fool" shirt that LReszetar promised us. (PROMISED!)

Greg, you have to answer this question!

What is this Edu to Ipswich town nonsense?

He turns down former Turkish champions and first division French teams to play in a poor Championship side?

What on earth!?!?!?

Jay Eychaner said...

Maybe this presumed Edu transfer has the same crazy madness that the Bedoya and Mix transfers had: only under contract until the end of the season. Both of those transfers were qualified as "we'll see how this season works, and if both parties are happy we'll sign an extension." Edu might take a one-season ride through the Championship and show up at the other end as a free agent.

Granted, at only £300k, I have a hard time imagining that an EPL team wouldn't take a flier on him. There are at least a half dozen who could certainly use an internationally-tested anchor man in the middle.

But Jay, why turn down teams that were Turkish champs a few years ago and mid-table French teams?....

I mean hes probably to end up at a team like that in January regardless!

Its not like Man U is waiting to make a bid.

@RM and Jay: and now for something completely different (to me, at least). Matt Doyle at MLSSoccer is opining that Valencia is looking at Edu for a spot in central defense.

I swear Edu had a game or two in central defense during the last WC cycle and, if I recall, didn't acquit himself that well. Anyway, that's the latest rumor.

I assume Greg is ignoring us because he's working on the definitive answer. Right, Greg?

Matt,

Old news!
that was 2 or 3 weeks ago and they decided instead on Fernando Gago I believe........Unless of course, Valencia is back in, Im not sure if Gago was official.

Ooooo, conspiracy theory: Klinsmann to run Edu at CB in Azteca to help showcase him to Valencia!!

Matt said...

@RM: It seems totally far-fetched to me, regardless. But since we're (with the exception of Greg) just trading in rumors, conjecture, and hearsay this time of year, I say, what the hell: Edu to Valencia sounds good to me.

Erik said...

Eh, I think it's less "conspiracy theory" and more "professional courtesy"

Greg, does your lack of a transfer "goodie" yesterday portend similar radio silence on the topic today? Any scraps to placate the commoners?

I know the waiting is the hardest part, but this stuff just requires patience. That the subjects we're waiting on either are (A) with a club that does not want to let go or (B) will go practically free making a crowd gather only slows things down more.

So yeah, welcome to my summer and January life. :D

Wow, RVP to ManUnited for 24 pounds sterling might have just shuffled the deck a bit...

Soccertes said...

*million* pounds sterling. He may be only 5 months younger than Dempsey, but he's worth more than 24 pounds, obviously.

Soccertes said...

And for what it's worth (read: nothing), and because I enjoy talking to myself, I'm going to guess that the RVP deal will not at all affect Arsenal's erstwhile non-pursuit of Dempsey, because they likely have known they were going to sell him since long ago, and picked up Giroud and the Spanish dude as replacements.
