You all know my rule about the possibility of someone missing something interesting compelling tardy posts. This time, that something (a very interesting and revealing interview with Jose Francisco Torres) got by me... which brings us back around to the original rule.
It's actually not so rare that something gets by me, because I don't read around to the features and columns of others much. It's perhaps more uncommon that I'd eventually see it, but I did this time and now feel the need to make sure every last USMNT fan sees it even though it's a week old.

Greg, out of curiosity, why the blackout on the biggest silly season stories in Edu, Boca, and (o' course) Dempsey? I know you gotta respect the requests of your contacts, but this saison transfert seems more muffled than usual. Are there some particularly fragile moving parts in the black box?
Thanks!
Short answer: Because, as much as I'd like to be first, I'd rather be second than wrong.
So, accuracy? Quel horreur!
But seriously, I respect that and thank you for it. But still, you gotta know how much this is killing us. Especially about Clint -- the latent anti-Americanism of your average British ultra (and, er, Dutch coach?) makes this especially painful.
I'm sure everyone here has seen the "Dempsey deal done for 8 million" rumor making the rounds this morning. Whether or not this particular one is true, I do think that there's been too much smoke with the whole LFC transfer rumor for there not to be fire. The McBride public endorsement is particularly telling, coming as it did in the wake of his much tweeted-about dinner out with Deuce. Can't wait to find out how it all really went down...
Yeah, though it kind of makes me sad. I really, really, really was hoping he'd go to a more promising club situation (eg Spurs, Arsenal, Malaga, or even an Italian CL team) than LFC. But wherever he goes, I hope he can improve on his ridiculous season last year to make his critics look like capital foolios (which they are).
The Boca situation is the one that confuses me the most. He keeps playing in Gers games, which certainly lends to the impression that he'll be sticking around in the Scottish 4th Flight. What is that equivalent to here, PDL?! I remember Lalas was creaming over Olympiakos rumors, but he really needs to go somewhere real.
As I've said before, Olympiakos is truly in for Bocanegra, but I doubt they will win the race.
Yeah, I really thought Arsenal was a lock early on. But that was before I truly understood how ridiculous the UK tabloids were with their soccer "reporting."
just as a little side note, kevin miralles, new signing with everton, formerly of olympiacos, turned down a move to arsenal, to wear the blue.
dikranovich is apparently back to plug the Deuce-to-Everton theory.
actually soccertes, i was plugging the no americans to play under a french coach theory.
After watching Santi Cazorla rip the sod off the Emirates pitch last weekend, I'm actually quite glad the Dempsey-to-Arsenal rumors proved false.
celtic with a 3-5-2, come on bedoya, lets see what youre made of. commons is the engine that makes celtic run. celtic had an exciting game on the weekend with ross county. rc scored first and celtic scored in the last seconds of extra time to get the tie.
celtic are going to struggle not having rangers in the top division with them. now all the teams will focus soley on them. boy that rangers celtic derby is going to be extra spicy these next couple of years.
WilkersonMclaser - We don't want Clint to go to Malaga. That's a real mess down there even though they're in the Champions League.
so adebayor sells for 5 million to spurs. qpr make a 5.5 million dollar bid for micahel dawson. these are euro figures, mirallas signed for 5 million also and there is a trend here and the chips are falling into place. everyone is looking for a bargain, but you would think qpr could do better with their millions.
Edu to Stoke it seems like
Can't see Edu at Stoke, he's not tall enough.
I feel like Stoke-on-Trent is really a modern day Skull Island with all of the giants that they have up there.
@Phil
Oh, yeah Malaga is a mess with those tightened purse strings. This year's Villareal? Maybe I meant Valencia or Athletico. Actually, what I really meant was Schalke. *grumble grumble* Anyway you see what I mean.
If Edu really does go to Stoke, that would really say a lot about his pairing with Geoffrey the other night in So-So-Cal (Southern Southern California ... Mexico ... OK I tried).
No, it wouldn't. Stoke views them both as midfielders, as I think they should.
Fiiiine. For what it's worth, I like Edu better as a midfielder too.
So, Greg, are you confirming Edu to Stoke?
No.

is it just me, or does it sound like the announcing is slightly off sinc with the game?
I feel the same thing about you, Dik: slightly out of sync with the game.
(*snicker*)
Jay:
Well said.
