My clipboard (updated)

This is not a prediction of who Coach Klinsi will summon for the Jamaica doubleheader in just a couple hours, it's who I would call.

G - Howard, Guzan

D - Cherundolo, Parkhurst, Goodson, Bocanegra, Lichaj, Pearce

D/M -  Cameron, Spector

M - Edu, Jones, Diskerud, Kljestan, Feilhaber, Dempsey, Davis

A - Altidore, Boyd, Wondolowski, Johnson, Shea, Gatt

A few notes:

- Starters in boldface.... with all possible left backs battling it out in camp. And while that doesn't include Johnson, considering the current roster state, I'd not be against him starting there in Jamaica.

- I've "called" Dempsey because Donovan appears to be unavailable. I think we can have Deuce around to off the bench, since he hasn't played a first team game yet this season. And since I am not counting on Donovan, Davis is in to provide late cross service and set pieces if necessary.

- I'm aware the some players who are set to be called are not here. For instance, Tim Ream, who is having a struggle at Bolton right now. So that's why.

- Yes, the defense numbers seem relatively thin, but I would love to be able to keep it simple and play the same four all 180 minutes this time. And yes, that means Cameron (who can still be shifted to the back in case of emergency) gets his first USMNT start in defensive midfield. If he can do it against Arsenal, he can do it against Jamaica.

- Bringing Gatt along slowly has been fine, We've done that. Now, it's time to get for real. If he can motor 50 meters against Heerenveen, he can do it against Jamaica. Ya heard.

- UPDATE: I know some will howl, but I'm bringing Pearce in for the injured Castillo. I also considered Parke and John.

Nice line-up. I like the addition of Benny. I always was a big fan of his style of play. However, I feel Klinsi prefers Mike Bradley and Torres over the former Bruin. In any event, it would be good to get a look at his maturity on the pitch.

No Herc. Oversight? Why did you leave him out?

Castillo is injured, and no Fabian Johnson. Really.

Greg Seltzer said...

@ gonavy : Bradley is injured. Torres has been making me nervous.

@ dikranovich: Dax is a good call, too, but not over Mix.

@ Jolazo: Herc is not in the form of the other guys right now.

@ Anthony Ward: Johnson is my starting right winger here. As for Castillo... damn, I forgot. Hmm, I need to make a change.

Fabian is listed as a forward. He's on there.

Never have been a Feilhaber fan. He wouldn't be in any my selectins.

Klinsmann seems to like to bring three GK's, so with that in mind this is who I would call up if I were Klinsmann:

GK: Howard, Guzan, Rimando
Defense: Lichaj, F.Johnson, Dolo, ParkHurst, Boca, Cameron, Goodson
CM's: Bckerman, Jones, Williams, Kljestan, Torres
Attacking Middies: Dempsey, Shea, Pontius, Gatt
FWDS: Altidore, E.Johnson, Boyd

Note 1- Chandler could very well be on the roster

Note 2- Gomez not in form, and Wondo brings nothing to the USMNT. KLinsmann obviously doesn't see Wondo as a super sub at all since he hasn't had much time when called in.

aw, nurrenburg released their list of internationals leaving at the break. timmy "cant handle her" chandler was not on the list.

I saw "Johnson" up top and my first reaction was Eddie, not Fabian. Did a double take.

Who's the left back? I only count 9 outfield players...

Greg Seltzer said...

I'd have that position decided by a camp fight. If Donovan was available, I'd be okay with Johnson at LB; without Donovan, I need Johnson on the wing.

And Josh Gatt just left Molde's game with an injury.

I worry this kid is starting to be injury prone.

That probably knocks him off of the USMNT roster now.

Four keepers? WTF, Jurgen!

Alex said...

whats wrong with 4 keepers in a 25 player camp?

It's a tag-team: Johnson at Jamaica; Rimando at Crew Stadium.

What happened to the Ream call-up? Bolton just misinformed?

Greg Seltzer said...

I'm guessing Ream was on a provisional list, but Klinsi left him out due to rough form.
