Don't even get me started.

I'm again fighting off a cold (thanks a lot, Agent M!), so I will just drop the USMNT roster and go club myself in the head 327 times. Do note that, unlike my usual, the squad has been left listed exactly as it appears in the official release - draw your own conclusions as to why.

G - Brad Guzan (Aston Villa), Tim Howard (Everton), Nick Rimando (Real Salt Lake)

D - Carlos Bocanegra (Racing Santander), Geoff Cameron (Stoke City), Edgar Castillo (Tijuana), Steve Cherundolo (Hannover 96), Maurice Edu (Stoke City), Clarence Goodson (Brøndby), Fabian Johnson (Hoffenheim), Michael Parkhurst (FC Nordsjælland)

M - Kyle Beckerman (Real Salt Lake), Michael Bradley (AS Roma), Joe Corona (Tijuana), Jermaine Jones (Schalke), Sacha Kljestan (Anderlecht), Brek Shea (FC Dallas), Danny Williams (Hoffenheim), Graham Zusi (Sporting KC)

F - Clint Dempsey (Tottenham), Landon Donovan (LA Galaxy), Herculez Gomez (Santos Laguna), Alan Gordon (San Jose Earthquakes), Eddie Johnson (Seattle Sounders)

- Greg Seltzer

whew, greg, we were all worried fabian johnson would be listed as a forward. the conclusion speaks for itself.

apparently jozy tweeted something petulant about kilnnsy after article came out where jk critiqued jozy. could that be a reason?

Greg Seltzer said...

@ Michael F: I suppose so. And if so... gimme a break.

dikranovich said...

jozy needs motivation to play at his best. let me give two examples.

one: is the con cup game against spain. he was snubbed by club xerox, of the second division and then went on to score against the national team.

two: you wanna see jozy motivated. go back and watch the costa rica game post cd9 accident. that was a motivated jozy.

dikranovich said...

usa could use a motivated jozy for the hex, that is for sure

JK said he wasn't impressed with the way Jozy practiced and played for the USMNT recently. Regardless it is good to see Klejstan get a chance to play.

Greg Seltzer said...

Oh, Klinsi said he wasn't impressed with how Jozy played lately? Yeah... he's the ONE. Nobody else.

When does he fail to be impressed with the attack builders?

dikranovich said...

greg, maybe your dutch-centric mentality is part of the problem here.

Mike said...

You need to start 3DM's in order to win the midfield battle in concacaf :-)

Setting aside the Jozyapocalypse. Alan Gordon (or Lenhart) are probably perfect for these type of games. Big bodies, noses for goal, and the ability to create complete havoc in the opposition box. Also, no Jose Francisco Torres. Be great to see a midfield with Danny Williams, Michael Bradley and Klejstan...

"Club form matters."
-Klinsy last camp discussing Kljestan and other high profile omssions
"Except when you don't worship the ground I walk on."
-Klinsy today

Also, while I'm sure Alan Gordon is a perfectly nice guy, his inclusion seems like a direct slight to Wondo.

And I thought some of JK's hilarious 3-0-7 formations at Bayern were the craziest things he'd ever do as a manger!

This roster has me thinking...who is next on our wishlist for US Managers? Kreis? Guardiola? Who...?

Matt said...

@Dallen: I seriously think Gordon was brought along to create havoc against a small team like Guatemala. Put him in the box and let him go nuts, Bill Laimbeer style.

Deep breath...Ok. I have not been privy to the USMNT practices over the last 6 months. Nor am I privy to private discussions between the USMNT staff and Jozy. With that said, I can't for the life of me come up with a single soccer-based reason for Altidore to be left out of this side. And frankly, people trying to come up for reasons are jsut stretching for explanations. This is baffling. Now I just hope it doesn't come back to bite us...

Jolazo said...

Alan Gordan > Jozy Altidore. FACT.

This whole thing reeks of Klinsmann having thin skin. Saying Jozy needs to show more commitment. The guy has completely transformed his career in the last year, and has taken it to another level this season. Yet we call in the 2nd choice striker from the freakin' San Jose Earthquakes.

Mike said...

at least Guatemala has a lot of injury problems at the back

dikranovich said...

unknown, please tell me you are not suggesting that usa needs jozy altidore to beat a and b, or guatemala, for that reason. whats baffling, is how some people want to be oblivious to the facts.

if usa dont have other strikers that can burn through these next two games, that would be most troublesome of all.

the funny thing is that no matter how you see the coach, we are talking about one of the quintessential strikers of the past 25 years.

Matt Brock said...

i wouldn't have called Jozy in just b/c of his play this weekend. he looked awful then got himself sent off for being an immature fool.

and agree with dikranovich- Greg you're acting like a teenage girl in love. i think you were disrespectful in those previous comments.

UnitedDemon said...

What the hell did Terrence Boyd do? Other than deliver on his first team minutes? Jozy was stupid, but Boyd is infinitely better than Gordon; imagine what he'd do in MLS!

Greg Seltzer said...

@ Matt Brock:

*I* was disrespectful to dikranovich? Wow... that is some hilarious shit.

Greg Seltzer said...

Take it easy, Misael. No need for all that.

Misael Garcia said...

That's being disrespectful

Greg Seltzer said...

Correct. But let's move on.

Wideboy said...

Something is going on between JK and Jozy and I am surprised it hasn't surfaced earlier. Greg, any chance of getting an in-depth interview with Jozy now that he won't be too busy for the next ten days lol?

Greg Seltzer said...

I suppose, but I'd assume doing so right now would make things worse. I will poke around the edges, though.

dikranovich said...

there is some pretentious bs being spouted off in here. i mean, for real.

Greg Seltzer said...

Yeah! And that's your job! Hrmph!

:D

Mike said...

My guess is that it has to do with jozy's professionalism. He didn't report to camp in shape which probably pissed off JK. Anyone know what jozy did in his time off from camp? Look at Dempsey reporting to the last Wcq's in good enough shape to play when he was out of favor with Fulham. Hasn't not practicing hard/good been a problem for jozy everywhere he has been( ny,hull,az)?

Mike said...

That's in regards to the may/ June camp. I should add I'm a huge jozy fan and hope this mess gets sorted out

Tony M said...

"we are talking about one of the quintessential strikers of the past 25 years."

So what? Diego Maradonna is the quintessential player of the last forty years. And he can't coach either.

dikranovich said...

united demon, if you are curious to know how boyd would do in MLS, you could compare hamid salihis numbers at rapid vienna, with his numbers at dc united. that might be a good clue as to what boyd would do in MLS.

tony m, it stands to reason that coach klinsmann has more coaching pedigree then maradonna, along with the fact that you removed the context from my passage.

dikranovich said...

its a funny thing, but the ultimate lineup and formation just came to me.

-----------howard----
-cameron----boca----edu----
----williams--bradley---
-zusi----donovan--fabian-
------ej----deuce-----

this lineup and formation is doom for any team that faces it. call it the balabushka lineup.

Greg Seltzer said...

Whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa... all the other hilarity aside, NOW you want Johnson as a wing attacker?

Say it ain't so, Joe!

Cam said...

I'd like to side with Jozy and I do think Jurgen is taking a pretty hard line here but it's not like we haven't seen this before, last year his manager at AZ benched him and criticized his professionalism

Jurgen is also always talking about being hyper-focused which is not how Jozy seems to operate, I think 2 things are probably the crux of the problem

dikranovich said...

lol

dikranovich said...

greg, id really like to discuss the merits of playing "the american formation", the 3-5-2. but first, please make that pacman answer my question about fifa13 regarding his play, with or without computer assistance. please, thank you.

Greg Seltzer said...

Cam, Verbeek did not bench Jozy like you're describing it. He rotated him and used his little stoke-the-fire mind games. He has now started about 30 straight games for AZ, and played 90 in nearly all of those. Strikers not named Altidore have played all of 27 minutes this season.

Greg Seltzer said...

Stay on topic, dikranovich. I won't ask again.

dallen said...

Donovan and Shea ruled inactive for the next two friendlies.

PERHAPS MAYBE YOU'D HAVE THOUGHT JURGEN MIGHT POSSIBLY HAVE NOTICED THAT THEIR TEAMS DIDN'T PLAY THEM LAST WEEKEND BECAUSE THEY HAD REAL INJURIES MAYBE POSSIBLY?

No immediate replacements announced = Jurgen won't put his tail between his legs and call up the obvious replacements because he has terrible relationships with Altidore, Wondo, Feilhaber etc. Someone find Deuce and wrap him in foam, please.
