It ain't over until we say it's over.

I'm happy to report (thanks to a heads up from NSC reader Michael) that St. Louis is back from the drawing board with another vision for a deluxe soccer-specific stadium to finally land an MLS franchise. If this one actually goes through, it would create a cozy campus of awesomeness with Union Station, new Busch Stadium and the Kiel Center (home of the Blues).

The plan has quickly drawn reaction from the big local independent paper - and, predictably, some of it is snarky. But frankly, knowing my homies, that's probably just masking a deep hope partially crippled by the fear that it will never happen. Either way, the fourth-most soccer-active city in the United States is not one to give up.

Interesting location. Parking would be a nightmare but its about 5 min from my house so I'm down. The stadium would be fantastic but who would be the teams ownership group? I hope this happens but can't see it.

Cooper isn't involved in the bid, is he?

@ JRue22: No group yet that I'm aware of, but perhaps their plan has a for-now quiet partner. We shall see.

@ Erik: There's no team bid yet, but I can't imagine him being along for the ride when there is.

My wife is from St Louis so I know how successful this could be. My bet is that this will be where Chivas winds up once it's sold.

On the other hand, there's this article, which quotes Bob O'Loughlin, (chairman and CEO of LHM) as saying "I haven't talked to anybody about it" when asked about putting up a soccer stadium on the site.

This whole thing smells like some hack someplace finding a distant link to Kroenke and ginning up some speculative speculatin'.

I love that particular spot. There are a lot of empty lots that they could build over between Union Station and Kiel Center (I will forever call it that). Metro link is also very close. I'd be a season ticket holder instantly. I hope it's true!

You heard it here first, fans! All we need to do is make Michael a billionaire...
