So what now, now?

Two more players, both (ahem) USMNT left backs are out for Friday. Edgar Castillo is also out for the Guatemala closer, but Fabian Johnson could be back for that. So... why aren't Heath Pearce and Chris Rolfe on their way to camp? We're now painfully thin (at best) at attack wide positions and left back, and reinforcements should be brought if for no other reason than in case of more injuries. This is getting weird. And nervy.

NO SHIT........

Not to mention the 6 players on yellow cards. This could be a disaster...

Excellent additional point, although Fabian Johnson is one of that group.

Hey Greg. What is your expected lineup in the wake of all these absences?

Andy said...

Calling Eric Lichaj.

Mike said...

I wouldn't mind seeing either Pontius, Lichaj, or Pearce called up for the Guat game. None of them will probably see the field but it could be a good experience for them

Eric Lichaj, Josh Gatt, and Timmy Chandler are all free that day. Maybe they can play poker together.

Is it time to panic yet?

Spector, Lichaj > pearce, Rolfe

@ Matt: Not yet, no. Check with me at the hour mark of the A&B game.

@ Derek: That is a great question. Rather than trying to guess what Klinsi may do, I'll just offer what I would probably do given his selection:

............Howard
'Dolo...Cameron...'Los...Parkhurst
.............Williams
........Bradley
..................Dempsey
..Zusi....................Johnson
.............Gomez

That's Fabian Johnson on left wing, btw.

In light of my tone yesterday, which I considered reasonable yet others considered completely "wigged out", I would like to state unequivocally that I do not blame JK for Johnson's flue. I am graciously willing to concede that sometimes stuff happens that's no one's fault.

Carry on

Tone does not come across correctly 100% of the time when written. I get in trouble for that often, like when someone thinks I'm being hostile when I'm not.

I, meanwhile, like to imagine it's eminently clear when I'm actually being hostile. :D

Wow, hopefully the food at the hotel is safe as we can't afford to lose anyone else.

Greg - Wouldn't you rather have EJ lead the line with Herc outside?

Greg Seltzer said...

I considered it, but with Leigertwood out, I'd prefer to attack the heart of defense with combos and through balls. And either way, Zusi is a better crosser than DJ Cool Herc.

Are we really worried about facing essentially a last-place USL Pro team? With their best players out?

Jolazo said...

@Greg

You know Fabian is out for A&B right? Who replaces him your 11 then?

Jay Eychaner said...

Yeah, that line-up ain't workin'. I imagine that Deuce could roll up to the left wing, and... Kljestan could take the center attacking mid? Augh.

@Eric: with qualification on the line, on their questionable turf, with questionable CONCACAF refs, in the Caribbean humidity, with a already questionable roster now missing an additional four player? Fuck yes we're worried.

Jay Eychaner said...

See? I'm so worried I couldn't even write that in proper English.

Greg Seltzer said...

@ Jolazo: Oh, hell's bells. That's what I get for doing 10 things at once.

Make the attacking four:

..........Dempsey
Zusi..................Gomez
............EJ

I'd like to keep Kljestan on the bench, so we have at least one proper playmaker available as sub.

strago said...

I'm predicting this is a 1-0 goal on a set piece because we generate 0 chances

Python said...

@strago and that's with a full roster to pick from. I agree that this will be close because Jorgensen tactics will make it that way.

Matt said...

Can someone provide any insight into why Klinsi wouldn't bother calling in replacements? I sometimes get the sense he's afraid of offending club team coaches. But that seems like a truly absurd reason not to call in backups for an important set of WCQ qualifiers.

Matt said...

I would also like to point out that there are multiple "Matt's" that post on this site. I am the Matt that has been here for years, and I am responsible for anything intelligent that a Matt posts on this site. Anything nonsensical comes from the other Matt(s)...

Carry on.

And, no, I won't change my page name to something else while posting on this site. Just like Michael Bolton wouldn't change his name in Office Space...

Mike said...

I just hope we get an early goal as I am not to worried about A&B coming up with a lot of scoring chances in this game. US should win comfortably and then beat Guatemala as well.

Jay Eychaner said...

@Mike didn't we all think that about the first A&B match? We're two awkward goals up and then give away a dumb goal. That scenario plays out differently when they're in front of the home crowd.

Mike said...

@ Jay- yes, that is what everyone probably thought. Regardless, A&B are playing without 2 of their best players and the US should not have a problem scoring goals on a team in last place in the USL
