And now for something completamente diversi...

While Clint Dempsey swept the two big 2012 prizes given in America, folks in Italy apparently felt slightly different. Soccer Italia (run by longtime NSC pal Franco Spicciariello) did a media survey of its own and to no shock it was Michael Bradley who bagged the honor, with Deuce finishing second. I say it's no surprise because nine of the 11 scribes handed ballots are of the Italian press.

What was a surprise to me was how much respect the Serie A reporters gave to MLS excellence. But maybe it shouldn't be; some of those writers have openly admired the qualities shown by stateside products on the big international stages for over a decade now.

The Boston Globe's Frank Dell’Apa was the only other American besides yours truly invited to take part.  With the intention to combine consideration for play with both club and country in the voting, my first place vote stayed with Bradley. After that, I voted Dempsey, Jozy Altidore, Tim Howard and Landon Donovan, in that descending order.
