I put this off long enough, but here it is.
If you weren't aware (and unless you follow me on Twitter — which you should do — there's no reason you would be) I start a new full-time gig writing for TopDrawerSoccer.com on Monday. It's exciting, my first gig with both feet fully planted in the soccer world. In essence, I'll be covering the next big thing in American soccer: the nation's best elite club, academy and high school players. I'm also taking over their 91st Minute blog, so my snark isn't going anywhere. I don't know if they're ready for stories about sentient goats, but we might jog some social consciousnesses soon enough.
No Short Corners has been an invaluable mental repository for me. At times, it's meant I've gotten to cover social issues, like the value of fair trade soccer balls. At other times, it's meant discussions on the cutting edge of where social media is taking the game. Other times, it's meant MLS galore. And still other times it's meant machine sound recitals in an alley. And of course interacting with the fine denizens of NSC, the best readers on the 'net. I stand by that.
In any case, in the name of diving headlong into my new job, I'm taking a hiatus from NSC. I don't know how long it'll be, but I do promise that this isn't my last post here. This has been and will continue to be my home base on the 'net. I'm just stepping away for the foreseeable future.
I want to thank all of you for (sometimes inexplicably) sticking with me the last 2+ years. We've agreed, disagreed, argued and ridiculed, but I think the common denominator provided by the game is what we share. And it's a powerful pull. We wouldn't know each other if not for soccer. And for that I'm grateful.
Enough with the mushy stuff. Greg will continue to destroy Europe with his rampaging exclusive scoops, and the rotating cast of contributors will continue to sate the insatiable soccer appetites found here. This is a good place. Take care of it.
So until we see again, cheers.
