Not to be confused with Jack Webb (or Dan Akroyd), but amid so much phony reportage, here is where the Jozy Altidore/Sunderland situation actually lies.
I just got off the horn with AZ technical director Earnie Stewart, who says they have rejected one Black Cats offer and now received a second. As of yet, no competitors have submitted an official bid for the power forward.
And there ya go.

Thanks Greg. I'm kind of surprised Sunderland is the only team in on him right now.
I kinda am, too. But things can change fast, we know that much.
Sounds like the perfect thing for Earnie to put out there to prod other clubs to come up with competing offers. I'm sure the Sunderland offers are legit but I bet a lot of it is to conjure up interest from teams on the fringe that are considering making an offer.
Clearly, you don't know Earnie. Or for that matter, how I report. :)
No,I don't know Earnie and the best conclusion I can draw from your reporting style can be summed up in the title "Just the facts, ma'am" and I appreciate that with all the rumors flying around.
So based on the facts you just gave, do you think that other teams are feeling pressure to place a bid now that Sunderland has upped their offer? or am I overestimating the current level of interest in Jozy?
I can't tell you what is going through the minds of other clubs that like him, but I can tell you Earnie is a straight shooter. He's not one to say things with an ulterior motive and I'm not one to get duped by someone who does. Actally, when I go ask a question like that to someone in such a position, I usually already know the answer.
How do you actually feel about him going to Sunderland?
Great question, Alex.
alex, the worst thing about playing for sunderland would be the Newcastle fans.
what the do offer is.
good service: check
American owner: check
solid defense: check
good fanbase: check
ESPN's Marc Stein is reporting that Jozy to Sunderland will be done by Monday. He's going out of his way to report this so, I can't see him reporting nonsense.
Time to bust out the Leatherface LPs and Kavanagh reruns?
Jozy's publicist on his site now confirming the move.
