Things that make you go "Hmm"

So I get why Brad Davis and Clarence Goodson were late additions to the USMNT ahead of these final two World Cup qualifiers, but I'm struggling to explain the arrival of Chris Wondo(w?)lowski. If you're keeping score at home, that makes five forwards in tow.

Hmm...

GAM is hurt. That's 4 forwards, 5 if you count Landon. But both Landon and Aron are probably gonna be playing on the the wing or in the hole.

coach klinsmann is signaling his intent to bag lots of goals tonight and on Tuesday.

well some of the forwards will have to play fullback so that's only 2 or 3 forwards left

@ adrian: Niiiiice.

@ Jolazo: Even if EJ is out, how far down the depth chart at striker is Wondo? I mean, really.

Jolazo said...

Apparently he's 5th on the chart, since Jozy, GAM, Aron, and Boyd were called in before him. Not a good sign for Herc or Agudelo.

anyone else wondering who GAM is?

Eddie Johnson said that he doesn't play video games because he's a Grown Ass Man

Do these guys get a larger share of qualification money by playing in more games, even after qualification is locked?

Donovan, Johanson, and EJ can all play on the wing/outside midfield in the 4-2-3-1 or 4-4-2. If Landon and Johanson play outside mid in a 4-4-2 then there is room for 2 more which would get you 4 of those guys in the lineup plus someone to come on as a sub.... I'm reaching here. Has Johanson ever played on the left?

I would love to hear the explanation for how Wondo passed Gomez in the depth chart.

Agudelo should have been called instead.

Most understand how poor Wondo is once you travel out of the 60 mile radius surrounding SJ and its delusional fans.

If Wondo was nearly as good as some think, SJ would have been rejecting bids from Europe for years now. Yet, MLS lifer who can't do much of anything besides poach.

whats the big deal about who is the fifth striker. I mean, maybe wondo brings some intangibles, like being a locker room guy, or maybe coach klinsmann just likes him and feel gomez is coming off an injury.

agudelo is going to get his shot after he transfers to England. if he hits five or six goals in the second semester he probably gets to brasil.

the most interesting thing tonight, is that we are going to see a Cameron and besler pairing, and this might be a marvelous pairing for years to come.

@Greg Seltzer: Maybe JK is letting Gomez settle down more in Tijuana, since he just recovered from an injury that took him out for about 2 months.

Greg Seltzer said...

That doesn't mean Wondo is above him. When Klinsi was running his Jozy game, we were all told Gomez was a legit candidate to start over him. Now, he's below Wondo? I don't see how that could have happened.

I'm over Gomez. He's never done much more than poach a goal or two. Great work rate, great guy and teammate by all accounts. Rates ahead of Wondo because he is more versatile, but when is the last time Gomez did anything impressive in a USMNT uniform? He's clearly behind Eddie from a goal scoring standpoint, and he's behind Aaron from a technical standpoint. Gomez has no shot at Brazil unless there are injuries to better options.

@Greg Seltzer: It could be but who knows. I think neither of them will get called up next month, but I bet there's a better chance Gomez gets called up over Wondo.
