G - Bill Hamid (D.C. United), Tim Howard (Everton), Sean Johnson (Chicago Fire)
D - DaMarcus Beasley (Puebla), John Anthony Brooks (Hertha Berlin), Geoff Cameron (Stoke City), Brad Evans (Seattle Sounders), Omar Gonzalez (L.A. Galaxy), Eric Lichaj (Nottingham Forest), Michael Orozco Fiscal (Puebla)
M - Alejandro Bedoya (Nantes), Michael Bradley (AS Roma), Mikkel Diskerud (Rosenborg), Fabian Johnson (Hoffenheim), Jermaine Jones (Schalke), Sacha Kljestan (Anderlecht), Brek Shea (Stoke City)
F - Jozy Altidore (Sunderland), Terrence Boyd (Rapid Vienna), Clint Dempsey (Seattle Sounders), Aron Johannsson (AZ Alkmaar), Eddie Johnson (Seattle Sounders), Chris Wondolowski (San Jose Earthquakes)
My thoughts?
- For those who told me to give up the Eric Lichaj crusade, I say ha! Still, I'm confused as to why the warming Timothy Chandler isn't also on board.
- Despite what he said last week, I am very happy to see no one called from the teams left in the MLS Cup fight. That just would not be cool.
- Chris Wondolowski fans, I think this might be his last chance to seriously bid for Brazil. And I doubt he'll end up with many pitch minutes to do it. Frankly - and this is nothing at all against the guy - but I'm not sure why he's in this very deep group for what at most will be two field spots.
- Obviously, Brad Guzan is carrying some little nag. Landon Donovan and Clarence Goodson also miss out due to injuries.
- My biggest gripe: Where is the ultra-hot Tim Ream? And with two center backs out for this trip, why not also Babajide Ogunbiyi? As it stands, get ready to see a whoooole lot of John Anthony Brooks in these two games.
- I'm also a little disappointed that Joe Corona is not in camp this time, especially with Graham Zusi occupied back home.

Ream had a doozy of a pass to set up a Beckford goal in their 3-1 win. He plays CB for Bolton yet he has no chance of doing that for the U.S.
Do you think he is better suited at CDM? Even though he is having a good run of form at CB for Bolton some of their fans feel he would be better suited further up the pitch.
Yeah I see right back as huge black hole. Which we have argued about a lot on this site. Regardless, I personally would really like to see Lichaj given two full games. He is only 24 and doesn't seem to be afforded the same patience in development that other guys like Omar Gonzalez, etc. have been given even though he seems to have the skill set to become a very good player.
I guess 57 minutes of Carling Cup play and a couple reserve league matches on the whole season is all it takes to make Jürgen's heart flutter all over again. Brek needs to be actually playing before the squad blows any more time on him.
Glad to finally see Lichaj called in again.
As I continually say, club form is far from the only factor in the process of assembling this eventual roster. One must also consider things like experience, positional needs, unique aspects of a player's game, performance ceiling against high level opposition and style fit.
Bolton released a statement saying Ream was on standby duty for this international break. So I guess if someone gets hurt, he'll be called up.
I would've rather seen Magee than Wondo.
I know Agudelo is busy at the moment, but he's an omission for my money.
What are the odds he finishes with more goals than Jozy in the PL? Depressingly good.
Jay: Yeah, Shea didn't deserve a call up.
Alex: Same here but if Magee was ever going to get a U.S. MNT call up, it's going to be in the January camp cupcake.
Often times, this " doesn't deserve a call" talk misses a very important. With Donovan and Zusi out, another proper wide player is required. If not Shea, then who?
really was hopping bobby wood would be on this roster
Is Gatt still injured? Put Eddie Johnson on the wing in a 4-2-3-1. Call up Timmy Chandler and put him on the wing. Hell, I'd even take Chris Rolfe over Shea, despite the poor season he's had.
Outside of his willingness to drive straight at a defender, I feel Shea is a one-dimensional player -- he is fast, but basically only runs in straight lines, his shot is inconsistent, and he gets frustrated so easily that he takes himself out of the game all the damn time. Given that, outside of the Gold Cup, he's barely seen competitive play for the entirety of the calendar year, Shea's a guy who should be light years off the radar.
I really don't understand why Klinsmann didn't call up Zusi; he's out of the MLS playoffs and has nothing to do until spring training. Brad Evans got called up, so there doesn't seem to be a problem calling up MLS players generally.
Call me nuts, but this feels like an instance of Klinsmann calling up a player to give him a potential boost going back to his club team.
@Jay
Zusi isn't out of the MLS Playoffs yet. That's why him and Besler weren't called up.
Ball nuts; it was NYRB knocked out of the playoffs. Thanks for calling that out.
@Michael F: Unfortunately he hasn't been getting a lot of PT in the last couple of months since his former 1860 Munich II youth and first team coach Alexander Schmidt got the boot. He was the coach that gave Bobby a chance and believed in him after the serious knee injury he suffered 2 years ago.
@Jay: Gatt is still recovering from surgery but I totally agree with your post.
