Goooch. (updated)

Yep, Oguchi Onyewu scored the winner in a 2-1 Sheffield Wednesday FA Cup victory at Rochdale.

UPDATE: NSC reader C. Goldkamp with the eagle eye.

Not to get ahead of myself, but with a MoM debut and a game winning goal in a 4th round cup match, this is looking like a superb signing for Sheffield and Gooch alike. If he keeps this up through spring, it might be seriously hard to leave him out of the USMNT conversation without seeming petty.

Gooch really might be our one central defender who would free up Besler and allow him to play at his optimum level.

@ WilkersonMclaser:

For me, he has remained in the USMNT conversation the whole time. I think that is just me, though.

Fair point, Greg. Although my comment was more directed to the US soccer chattering class in general than anyone in particular.

Care to comment on Jozy? I know he needs time, etc., but the more he trots out for Sunderland, the less confident I am that he'll re-find his scoring ways. Is that too harsh? What can be done?

I'm not on the AJ train like the good folks at ASN (I'll believe when AJ is knocking them in at the same rate in England or Spain), but clearly there's something that needs to change for Jozy.

this is the nice thing about jozy and club and country. he does not have to perform well with his club, in order to perform well for his country. and it is what it is.

it would have been nice to see juan open up his account with a goal today, and he should get some fair chances to bag at least a handful during the remainder of the season.

like it or not, we have a little bit of depth at forward, and there are some world cup slots available for those players that really step it up over the next several months.

strikers lose form and find it quicker than any other field position player.

altidore, plus the most in form of aj, ej, and ja, is not a bad duo to take to brasil, with Donovan and Dempsey mingling.

@WilkersonMcClaser: Johannsson is a quality player in the making. And it's not just the good folks at ASN who are in the AJ train.
